Final Fantasy 16 received a lot of criticism for failing to adhere to some of the long-running franchise's tried and tested tropes. One of the main things that players were unhappy about was the lack of a more traditional RPG party system, which made it impossible for players to customize the equipment or appearance of secondary characters like Jill, Joshua, and Torgal.

It appears that the game's developers may have been listening to some of this criticism, as the 1.10 update for Final Fantasy 16 went some small way toward addressing those complaints. Sadly, it didn't add a party system, but it did at least provide players with a way to change the appearance of some of the game's main characters with a series of new outfits and weapon skins.

How to Change Outfits in Final Fantasy 16

After downloading the game's 1.10 update, Final Fantasy 16 players will be able to change the appearance of Clive, Jill, Joshua, Torgal, and Ambrosia. To do so, they'll need to make their way to the Arete Stone, which can be found on the upper level of the Hideaway. There, they'll find a new menu labeled appearance, which is where they'll need to go if they want to change a character's outfit.

At the time of writing, each of the aforementioned characters has two looks available to them: their normal one and a new outfit inspired by a color. Clive gets Burnt Black, Jill gets Snow White, Joshua gets Ashen Grey, Torgal gets Icy Blue, and Ambrosia gets Rosarian Gold. Those curious as to what they look like can see all five of the new FF16 outfits in the gallery above.

In addition to changing certain characters' outfits, players will also be able to change which sword Clive is shown to be wielding, allowing players to equip one sword but have another one displayed. Assuming they've unlocked them, players will be able to choose between every sword in Final Fantasy 16, including the Onion Sword, which was also added to the game as part of the 1.10 update.

Many of the cutscenes in Final Fantasy 16 are pre-rendered, and, at the time of writing, will continue to show characters with their default appearance even if players have changed their outfits via the Appearance menu. It remains to be seen whether or not this will be fixed in a future update, nor is it clear if more new outfits will be added somewhere further down the line.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
