The latest trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves reveals five playable characters and a time frame for its release in 2025. It has been some time since an official update about the game was released. Development for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was first announced by SNK at EVO 2022.

Fatal Fury is a classic arcade fighting game by SNK that has been around since 1991. Known as Garou Densetsu in Japan, its last standalone game was Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which released in 1999. Over the years, however, its characters have made appearances in the crossover fighting games series King of Fighters and SNK v. Capcom.Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be a new fighting game exclusive to the characters of Fatal Fury, and its story will follow the events of Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

The latest trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves reveals Terry Bogard, Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Tizoc, and introduces Preecha as five of the game's playable characters. Gameplay footage of combat displays the characters' special moves and combos, with Japanese and English dubbed voices. No exact date was given for when the game will be released next year. Rock Howard was the first character revealed by SNK to be part of City of the Wolves.

Four of the five characters have been seen before. Terry Bogard has been a primary character in the series since the debut of the original Fatal Fury, and can be downloaded to Super Smash Bros.Ultimate. Rock Howard is the son of the game's main antagonist, Geese Howard, and was first introduced in Mark of the Wolves. Hotaru Futaba and Tizoc also make their returns from Mark of the Wolves after some appearances in The King of Fighters. Last, but not least, the trailer introduces Preecha and shows off her moves.

Although it has been over 20 years since a dedicated Fatal Fury game was released, the franchise has stayed alive through multiple character appearances in other games. The King of Fighters 15 and King of Fighters All-Star are two current SNK-published games that feature some of these characters. Though not likely to be an immediately playable character in City of the Wolves, Geese Howard is playable in Tekken 7 via DLC as well.

There has been hype for a sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves for years. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves not only fills this gap, but will also bring a new dedicated game for a devoted franchise.
