Oscar winner Brie Larson may be best known for her award-winning performance in the drama Room, along with her MCU film Captain Marvel. Now she will be joining Vin Diesel and his crew in Fast X, the next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.

The Fast & Furious series has been around for over two decades, made billions at the box office, and has cast some big stars, including Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Gal Gadot. With the current addition of Jason Momoa and Rita Moreno, and the franchise nearing its end, who will Brie Larson be playing in the upcoming sequel?

Who is Brie Larson Playing in Fast X?

Brie Larson has stated that she will be portraying a character named Tess, who is the daughter of secret agent Mr. Nobody (who was played by Kurt Russell in the previous three sequels: Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, and F9: The Fast Saga). The actress mentions that Tess could be a member of the agency that her father has been a part of for a long time. However, now that Mr. Nobody is seemingly out of the picture, Tess is hesitant about how the agency is currently running, perhaps because she only trusts her father to run it considering how top secret it is.

Despite her conflicts with the agency and the unknown whereabouts of her father (after his plane crash in F9), she seemingly trusts Dominic Toretto and his crew because of the work they did with her dad in taking down bad guys and saving many lives. Dom also appears to trust and admire Tess, especially because of her willingness to approach him without hesitancy. In order to ensure her loyalty, Dom will ask Tess to complete a task for him (most likely a test for Tess to prove herself as a worthy ally who can be relied upon for Dom and his family).

Without Hobbs and Mr. Nobody, Dom could surely use an experienced agent like Tess to join his crew since they will be going up against another major villain in the form of Jason Momoa's Dante, who turns out to be the son of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes, the antagonist Dom and his crew took down with DSS Agent Luke Hobbs in Fast Five. Due to Tess' experience with her father's agency, she is undoubtedly skilled in combat, weaponry, and rogue undercover work. One question will be surrounding her driving skills and what cars she will drive in the sequel (although it should be good since Brie is appealing in all those Nissan commercials).

Who is Mr. Nobody?

Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody is a charismatic agent who used to work for the CIA. After that, he commanded his own agency, wearing a suit and dark sunglasses reminiscent of Men In Black. He has several agents, and a lot of guns, at his disposal for any dangerous mission. It turns out that he was personally responsible for faking the death of Han Seoul-Oh (since Han accepted a mission to protect a young girl named Elle after her parents were killed and to guard a device called Project Aries). Mr. Nobody was good friends with Han's girlfriend, Gisele Yashar, and after her death, Nobody approached a grieving Han and gave him the opportunity to work for him.

In Furious 7, Dom goes after Deckard Shaw for seemingly killing Han (while Deckard wants to take down Dom for nearly killing his brother Owen, the main villain in Fast and Furious 6). In order to help Dom find Deckard, Mr. Nobody introduces himself to Dom and asks him for his assistance in finding a hacking device called God's Eye. After Dom and his team retrieved God's Eye and its creator, Ramsey, Nobody allows Dom to use the device to track down Deckard's location.

Along with his newfound partnership with Dom, Mr. Nobody is also an ally of Hobbs, who Nobody helps escape from prison in The Fate of the Furious so that Hobbs, Deckard, and Toretto's crew can find the cyber-terrorist Cipher, who coerces Dom to join her and go against his own team. Mr. Nobody also shows off some of his expertise in action, including a sequence in Furious 7 in which he shoots down several bad guys with a pair of pistols and dark VR sunglasses (despite getting shot but surviving nonetheless with a bulletproof vest and a medical team on standby).

When is Fast X Coming Out?

Fast-X-Cast

While Justin Lin has directed the most Fast & Furious films in the series, this time Fast X will be directed by French filmmaker Louis Leterrier (who made the first two Transporter films with Statham and The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton). The sequel is set for release on May 19, 2023, with huge anticipation since this is the penultimate installment of the main franchise (without counting the spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw).

Along with Jason Momoa's villain and Rita Moreno as Dom's grandmother Abuelita, Reacher star Alan Ritchson is also joining the heavy cast as Agent Aimes, the new head of Mr. Nobody's agency alongside Scott Eastwood's Little Nobody. Daniela Melchior (from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad) is taking on a new character named Isabel, a Brazilian street racer connected to Dom's past. With a combination of old and new characters, the sequel will be filled with action and drama, but Brie Larson's Tess will be particularly intriguing not only in her partnership with Dom but also in finding out whether her father is alive after his plane crash.

Fast X will be in theaters on May 19, 2023.
