Highlights

  • Far Cry 7 is rumored to be in development and, like its predecessors, will feature compelling villains.
  • Potential actors for the villain role in Far Cry 7 include Neil Newbon, Maggie Robertson, and Mark Hamill.
  • The Far Cry franchise could benefit from having a female villain, and Maggie Robertson's performances make her a strong choice.

Far Cry 7 is only rumored to be in development, but it will likely happen at some point. It could be argued that the villains in the Far Cry franchise are some of the best in video games, from Far Cry 3’s unstable Vaas, played by Michael Mando, to Far Cry 5’s Joseph Seed, who led a religious cult called the Project at Edens Gate, played by Greg Bryke.

The acting industry is a big one, and the actors in previous Far Cry games have come from all corners of the industry, from the actor Troy Baker who played Far Cry 4’s Pagan Min, to the Hollywood star Giancarlo Esposito who played Far Cry 6’s Anton Castillo. If Far Cry 7 does happen, it will need to have someone who is already well-versed in playing various villainous characters.

If there is one thing the Far Cry series is known for, it is for showcasing absolutely compelling villains in every entry of the franchise.

The Best Possible Actors for Far Cry 7’s Villain

Neil Newbon

Best known for his role as Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, for which he has won two awards, Neil Newbon has a wide range of acting talents and has played a variety of different characters, from protagonists and heroes to antiheroes and villains. Newbon has portrayed many characters in video games over the years, and he is no stranger to portraying a myriad of villains in video games.

What makes Newbon a great choice for a Far Cry villain is his role as Baldur’s Gate 3’s Ascended Astarion, Resident Evil Village’s Karl Heisenberg, Resident Evil 3’s Nicholai Ginovaef, and Detroit: Become Human’s Elijah Kamski. Out of those four characters, Ascended Astarion and Karl Heisenberg might have the most cult-like vibe about them, especially since Heisenberg is part of a cult in RE: Village, and it’s hinted that Baldur's Gate 3's Ascended Astarion is taking part in cult-like activities, and a cult vibe has been rumored for Far Cry 7.

Maggie Robertson

Out of all the Resident Evil villains, Maggie Robertson’s Lady Dimitrescu is the most iconic villain in the franchise. Not only has Robertson played a Resident Evil villain, but she also plays one of the creepiest and demented villains in Baldur’s Gate 3, Orin the Red. If there’s anyone who would make an excellent fit for a new female Far Cry villain, it’s Maggie Robertson.

The Far Cry franchise isn’t known for having its titular villain a woman, and the only Far Cry that had its female villains on the cover was the spin-off title and sequel to Far Cry 5, Far Cry: New Dawn. Most female villains in Far Cry are usually secondary antagonists and are one of the main underlings for the big bad villain. If Ubisoft decides to go in a new direction and have its core villain a woman, then Maggie Robertson should be considered for the role, as both Orin the Red and Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu are perfect examples of why she would be a great fit to play a Far Cry villain.

Mark Hamill

Everyone knows Mark Hamill for his roles as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars and the Joker in the Batman franchise, but not many people know that he voiced Goro Majima in the English dub of the original Yakuza game on PS2. Even though Hamill is well known for the heroics of Luke Skywalker, he has built a repertoire of voicing bad guys and villains across various animated shows and films.

If Far Cry is looking for an actor who is no stranger to voicing iconic villains, then they should consider Mark Hamill for the role. His portrayal of the Joker in both the animated shows and films and the video games of Batman is unparalleled. Not only is he the Joker, but he also plays Zuko’s sinister father, Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Hamill is no stranger to voicing a myriad of villains.

Honorable Mentions

Other Actors That Would Be a Great Choice For a Far Cry Villain

There are so many other actors who would make a great Far Cry villain, and here are some honorable mentions.

  • Jodie Comer: Villanelle in Killing Eve.
  • Darin De Paul: Ardyn Izunia in Final Fantasy 15.
  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Negan in The Walking Dead.
  • Mads Mikkelsen: Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal.
  • Lars Mikkelsen: Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels and Ahsoka.

Whether or not Ubisoft casts any of the actors mentioned here, Far Cry 7 will likely have a villain who is just as iconic as all the other villains in the Far Cry franchise. The Far Cry games typically don't disappoint in their casting of villains and the actors are known to bring those characters to life in the best of ways.
