The first Far Cry 7 details have leaked online, revealing some interesting information about the upcoming open world game. According to Insider Gaming's report, the Ubisoft Montreal-developed Far Cry 7 will launch in fall 2025 and be utilizing the Snowdrop engine used in The Division games and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Frontiers of Pandora has actually drawn comparisons to Far Cry, so it's not a stretch to think that the upcoming Far Cry 7 will be built using that engine. The Insider Gaming report has also revealed what fans can expect from Far Cry 7 in terms of story and gameplay.

Apparently, Far Cry 7 will feature an in-game timer of 72 hours, with players having to rescue their kidnapped family members from a villainous group called the Sons of Truth within that time. Players can reportedly rescue their family members in any order, though they can also be killed, which will supposedly change the course of the story. The other main goal will be to wipe out the Sons of Truth. Players will also be able to utilize a "new interrogation mechanic" to gather helpful intel.

It wasn't mentioned in the report, so this is purely speculation at this time, but based on the Far Cry franchise's history with iconic villains, one has to imagine that at least some members of the Sons of Truth could be played by Hollywood talent. Far Cry 3 famously featured Michael Mando as Vaas, while Far Cry 6 enlisted the talents of Giancarlo Esposito and Anthony Gonzalez. Other Far Cry games have instead relied on traditional video game actors, so it's really anyone's guess what direction Far Cry 7 might take.

Fans should take the information with a grain of salt, but Insider Gaming has proven to be a reliable source of leaked info in the past. And really, Far Cry 7 is a matter of when, not if. If the Far Cry 7 release date is truly in 2025, then fans may find out more about it next year. In the meantime, there's also the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix animated series on Netflix for Far Cry fans to look forward to in October.
