Although leaks and rumors have yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft, if they're to be believed, Far Cry 7 is headed in an exciting new direction with its location. As the wait for Ubisoft to officially confirm the game continues, some notable leaks have suggested Far Cry 7 is headed to Korea for its next installment.

The Far Cry franchise has had a long and varied history. Now, with 20 years worth of games under its belt, Far Cry is potentially getting a seventh mainline entry. After Far Cry 6 arguably felt a little limp in its delivery and story, the franchise is in need of a fresh start with a change of pace, and the rumors surrounding Far Cry and its potential Korean setting could be just what the series needs.

The Case For and Against Another Far Cry Game Like FC2

Many fans still fondly reminisce about 2008's Far Cry 2, and there's an argument to be made both for and against another entry like it in the series.

Far Cry 7 Korea Rumors

These rumors started last year. During July 2023, an anonymous insider took to the internet to share what they claimed was legit information regarding Far Cry 7. Although the post was eventually taken down, plenty of readers were able to save the post's information, with one of the most exciting details being a potential scenery change in Korea.

A Korean Island Taken Over by Insurgents

According to the anonymous source, Far Cry 7 may be set on an island known as Kimsan, located off the coast of Korea. The leaks claim that the island of Kimsan has been taken over by North Korean insurgents who are holding the protagonist's family captive. There is a lot of hope for Far Cry 7's villain, and the rumored North Korean insurgents are speculated to be led by a leader known as Choi Sang-Pil who may be played by Squid Game's Lee Jung-Jae. Far Cry is no stranger to using major actors in its games, but there has yet to be any solid confirmation on this.

Far Cry 7's Protagonist and Plot

Not only have leaks come from anonymous insiders, but more reputable sources, like Insider Gaming, have also revealed some intel about Far Cry 7. Leaks about the game's main plot suggest that players will be tasked with saving the protagonist's family members from a group known as the Sons of Truth, while only having 72 hours to do so. Although these leaks didn't outright mention anything about the original Korea rumors, a game centered around a protagonist fighting to save their family from rogue insurgents isn't outside the realm of possibility for a Far Cry title. The details of these leaks could tie in very well with the Korea rumors.

Far Cry 7 Rumors in the Spotlight

These Korea rumors are incredibly intriguing, but they aren't even the most recent rumors regarding Far Cry 7. A cryptic message from an Ubisoft insider involved a tweet that featured a picture of Cillian Murphy, a bomb with a 72-hour timer, a giant crab, and the number 7. This tweet quickly started rumors claiming Cillian Murphy would be the star of Far Cry 7, but that has since been debunked by the Ubisoft insider. However, this mysterious tweet raises a lot of questions that are bound to create more rumors as the wait continues.

Based on the pictures of Oppenheimer's Cillian Murphy and the bomb, perhaps players will have 72 hours to stop the North Korean insurgents from detonating a nuclear bomb while also having to save their family members. The inclusion of the crab also gives some weight to the rumored island theme. Whatever route Far Cry 7 explores, the next chapter will hopefully break traditions in order to help the series evolve.
