The Far Cry series has been known for having some of the most iconic villains across video games, and it seems that Far Cry 6 will evolve on that. First, by introducing the sinister Anton Castillo, who will seek to keep his homeland pure by any means necessary. Then, thanks to Far Cry 6's post-launch plans, players will be able to hop into the shoes of their favorite Far Cry villain in the new game's season pass. Far Cry 6's season pass will also include Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as an added bonus.

Shown during the Ubisoft Forward event at E3 2021, Far Cry 6 first showed a trailer where Anton Castillo teaches the dangers of trying to leave the island. After that, players were reintroduced to Far Cry 3 through the eyes of Vaas, where Jason Brody looks to be the crazy one. Pagan Min is seen taking a selfie with his family, and Joseph Seed spits spiritual doctrine before shoving a bible down someone's throat. All three of these DLC are set to give player's an exciting new way to look at these famous killers.

The Sanzaru, or Three Wise Monkeys' History and Meaning

Ghandi's Statues of the Three Monkeys doing the see no evil speak no evil hear no evil pose

The Sanzaru, or Three Wise Monkeys as it's known in America, is an ancient Japanese pictorial maxim that stated the way to avoid the evil in life was to keep one's self away from evil actions, words, and people. That being said, like all ancient sayings, the meaning can and has been twisted by the many years since it was first depicted. What once stood as a way to strengthen the self from evil has been twisted to mean the opposite. The Three Wise Monkey's have become a way for us to make sure we know who to trust.

What once stood as an example of how to safeguard against evil now stands as code for "You didn't see anything." It stands as a reminder that when you're hanging around evil characters, it's best to limit what someone hears or sees, and especially what they tell others. For those goodie two shoes who can't resist letting the bad deeds slip, nothing awaits them but a painful death. This is the point where the Three Wise Monkeys intersect with another ancient proverb, "Snitches get stitches." As it turns out Far Cry has been leaning into this principle for a long while.

How the Three Wise Monkeys Apply to the Far Cry 6 Villain DLC

far cry 6

In the ad for the Far Cry 6 villain DLC, fans see Joseph, Vaas, and Pagan performing the "Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, See No Evil" pose, respectively. This is more to do with the code of secrecy twist, as opposed to meaning that safeguards against evil. Joseph's religion relies on him spreading love in order to protect against the "Collapse." Vaas is self-diagnosed as insane, and likely can't properly understand what others are saying to him. Pagan is mostly unconcerned with the violence he causes, and so he is blind to it.

While making these villains playable is a huge step for the Far Cry games, the anthology DLC is similar to Far Cry 5's post-launch content as well. Players will get a first-person look at the psychoses of characters like Pagan, Joseph, and Vaas. The mind is a dangerous place, as the trailer says, and only the strongest will be able to come out of their brush with these villains unscathed. While in these roles, it's likely that the player will be viewing the story from a more sympathetic angle towards these three iconic villains.
