Ubisoft has plenty of triple-a franchises in its roster, though one of its longest-running and most beloved is Far Cry. While the most recent entry in the franchise, Far Cry: New Dawn, was met with mixed feedback, a new rumor claims that Far Cry 6 is on the way, and it may be the return to form that fans have been looking for. Better yet, a reveal may be coming soon.
A new report from GameReactor.dk claims that Far Cry 6 will be revealed at Ubisoft Forward on July 12, or possibly leaked if Ubisoft decides to wait longer than that. According to the leak, Far Cry 6 will also ditch the North American setting, which, while beautiful, was criticized as boring by some Far Cry 5 players.
If the report is accurate, the game will be one of Ubisoft's five triple-a titles releasing this fiscal year, which would mean Far Cry 6 is releasing between now and April 2021, unless it's delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. The date does make sense, as Far Cry, traditionally, has been a semi-annual series, with Far Cry: New Dawn releasing in 2019, and Far Cry 5 releasing just a year before that.
"Exotic location" is a fairly ambiguous tease, though it may hint that the location will be a departure from anything the studio has tried before. Ubisoft has surveyed Far Cry fans about settings they'd like to see in future titles, with possibilities ranging from a zombie apocalypse to aliens, though those ideas were used as Far Cry 5 DLC, and don't seem that likely to be turned into full games, so Far Cry 6's location is still a mystery.
Of course, the information hasn't been confirmed, and much of it seems like a no-brainer given how Ubisoft releases its games, especially with the timing between the last Far Cry entry and now. With that being said, it's a good idea to take all this information with a grain of salt, as it could easily turn out not to be true.
Either way, fans don't have long before they'll find out. Ubisoft Forward is scheduled to take place next month, in close proximity to the Xbox July event, so gamers should be getting a mountain of video game news and reveals in the coming weeks. Maybe Far Cry 6 will be one of them.
