A Far Cry 5 player has recreated a Far Cry 2-inspired environment using the game’s Arcade Mode. Map editors in the Far Cry franchise are nothing new, and they offer players a way to experiment with the sandbox. However, the map editor in Far Cry 5, which launched in 2018, received a significant upgrade, giving players access to assets from various Ubisoft franchises, including the previous Far Cry titles, Assassin’s Creed, and Watch Dogs. In Arcade Mode, players have complete control over a number of features, including the audio and terrain of the maps, which they can also share with friends.

With such a highly comprehensive tool at their fingertips, players have been using Arcade Mode to recreate maps and even environments from some of their favorite titles, and so it was only a matter of time before Far Cry 2 received the same treatment. Fans believe Far Cry 2 needs a remake for several reasons, including the nearly unforgiving survival mechanics that made it challenging and realistic. Since there hasn’t been any indication from Ubisoft of a remake happening, some fans have taken the matter into their own hands.

A Next-Gen Look at Far Cry 2

According to Mojo Swoptops, they did this as a concept mockup so that fans could see what a potential next-generation version of Far Cry 2 would look like. Their post was well received on Reddit, with other users becoming nostalgic for Far Cry 2. Some, in particular, recalled a Far Cry trope that is not used in the games anymore, where the player must take a pill every so often in order to avoid getting malaria, while others praised the enemy AI and sandbox.

Far Cry 2 explosion

This Far Cry 2 recreation is not the first time Mojo Swoptops has used the Arcade Editor in Far Cry 5 to make environments from well-loved games. Previously, they also worked on Shipment, a widely popular Call of Duty multiplayer map, as well as Goodsprings from Fallout: New Vegas. While there has been no news about Far Cry 7 beyond rumors, many fans are hoping for the new title to have a map editor when it ships, as Far Cry 6 did not.
