HERBIE, also known as Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics, has a unique past in the Marvel franchise. The character was created for The New Fantastic Four animated series in 1978 as a replacement for the character Human Torch, who couldn't be included because the rights to the latter character were separately secured for a solo movie that ultimately never happened. There were myths that the Human Torch was replaced because there were concerns that children might try to imitate the Human Torch by setting themselves ablaze, but these were false. HERBIE was later introduced to the comics in Fantastic Four #209 in 1979. Reed creates HERBIE to assist him in the field, working as a remote substitute for the Baxter Building's supercomputer.

HERBIE's appearance in the MCU is still a rumor, but fans want it to be true. Fantastic Four is one of the most anticipated MCU movies, and the recent announcement of the team having a major role in the MCU has undoubtedly thrilled fans. On the other hand, the speculation about the original cast from the 2005 Fantastic Four appearing in Deadpool 3 has also sent everyone into a frenzy.

It’s unclear if the original Fantastic Four movie team will appear in Deadpool 3 or how much they'll be part of it, but the idea of Deadpool 3 having characters from the past is fascinating. Meanwhile, the latest rumor about HERBIE appearing in the Fantastic Four MCU movie has made things even more compelling.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
