  • Quaid's rise to fame was propelled by his role as Hughie Campbell in The Boys, and he has since appeared in big films such as Scream and Oppenheimer.
  • While it wouldn't be the most outrageous if Quaid ended up in Fantastic Four, it would make more sense if it was just a cameo, considering the actor's already busy schedule and the anti-superhero nature of The Boys.

Since rumors of Fantastic Four casting have kicked into overdrive, The Boys actor Jack Quaid has been the first to squash any assumption that he will appear in the franchise. But according to one source, he will appear – just not in the role anyone thought he was.

Fantastic Four rumors aside, Quaid has been a rising star since being cast as The Boys' protagonist Hughie Campbell. Quaid had few notable credits before the highly successful Amazon series came to fruition. His biggest claim to fame was appearing in the quickly dispatched character, Marvel, in The Hunger Games adaptation. Appearing in The Boys as graphic-tee-loving Hughie propelled him into higher ranks, where he has appeared in big films such as Scream and Oppenheimer.

But despite his move into the big leagues, the actor has destroyed any rumors that he would appear in the new Fantastic Four film as Johnny Storm. Unless he is pulling an Andrew Garfield fielding questions about Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s likely he’s staying true to his word. But according to insider information, he may be choosing his words cleverly on purpose. Per Grace Randolph on Twitter, Quaid could still make his Marvel debut, just not in the role of Johnny Storm. The creator of the YouTube show Beyond the Trailer has reported the rumor that Quaid will appear in the Fantastic Four as an alternative and undisclosed character.

After Quaid denied his involvement as The Human Torch, the rumor mill kept churning. Picks for Reed Richards have spanned far and wide from Adam Driver to Penn Badgley. Johnny Storm, by comparison, has not been as prevalent in the limelight. But new picks for the character have been circling Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn as a top contender. It seems more likely that Quaid was not pulling a fast one by denying his appearance in the film. He already has his hands full with a lead character on a popular show that has reportedly been confirmed for season 5. Switching teams seems odd, particularly because of the subject matter.

The Boys has a brand of being as anti-superhero as you can get. Based on Preacher Writer's Garth Ennis comic of the same name, the series pictures what the world would be like if superheroes were real. They wouldn’t be idealists fighting for truth, justice, and the American Way. Instead, The Boys shows a world where superheroes are privatized, meaning supes are in it for the perks, which makes them some of the worst people on the planet.

Though it wouldn’t be the most outrageous if Quaid did double duty, it would be a lot of superhero content for one actor. So if rumors are correct and Quaid has grabbed a role in Fantastic Four, it makes more sense if it were only a cameo.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
