Following all the buzz that Jack Quaid had been cast as The Human Torch for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, The Boys' official Twitter account decided to give their humorous thoughts on the matter, referencing a particular moment from season 2.

With the rumors that Quaid had been cast in Fantastic Four as the Human Torch - which is allegedly not true - The Boys' Twitter account referenced their iteration of that supe. They did so while commenting on the rumors of Quaid's casting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's interpretation of the Fantastic Four.

Following the gossip about Quaid becoming the Human Torch in Fantastic Four, Prime Video's Twitter account tweeted a picture of Quaid's Hughie Campbell alongside Billy Butcher, Frenchie, and Mother's Milk. "He's already in a pretty fantastic four," reads the caption. The Boys' Twitter account replied to the tweet with a picture of two images from the show - one of Lamplighter lighting himself on fire in season 2, and the other of Campbell freaking out to see the supe kill himself with his own superpower.

Lamplighter was a pivotal character in The Boys season 2. After he resigned from The Seven due to previously mysterious circumstances leading up to season 1 - which led to Starlight being hired as his replacement - it was revealed in its next season that Lamplighter was originally blackmailed into being a spy for The Boys to help take down Vought. However, Lamplighter planned a coup of his own when he intended to kill the leader of the team, Grace Mallory, to free himself from the blackmail. Things sadly went awry when he accidentally killed her grandchildren instead of her. Though Lamplighter was no saint, he understood the wrongdoing of his actions and tried to earnestly atone for what he had done by helping The Boys before committing suicide.

Having Quaid play the actual Fantastic Four hero that Lamplighter is a parody of would have been quite an interesting twist. It's already funny enough to see Quaid play Superman in the latest iteration of Superman in My Adventures With Superman, given that he's playing a character in The Boys who is actively trying to eliminate supes from the world due to them abusing their power. Having him potentially join the MCU on top of that only adds to the irony.

Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan previously the character, so Quaid also would have been an interesting choice to play Johnny Storm. Quaid's straight-man, fish-out-of-water routine that he expertly portrays in The Boys could have put the Human Torch in an entirely new light. The MCU has struggled to keep its fans invested over the last few years, and Fantastic Four is one of its last-ditch attempts to keep its audience. Quaid would have been an intriguing choice, and intriguing casting choices are what they need if they want this upcoming reboot to be a success.

The Boys seasons 1-3 can be streamed on Prime Video, and Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
