Warner Bros. has officially released a new look at its upcoming film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The contentious and highly-debated prequel, which occurs before the events in Harry Potter, will see the return of some familiar faces, along with new additions to the wizarding adventure.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will take place after the events of 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, continuing the surging conflict between two competing forces as Grindelwald's army progressively grows. Albus Dumbledore is fully aware of his old friend's intentions but cannot stop his destructive thirst for power alone, which ushers in magizoologist Newt Scamander and his unorthodox team. They must unify and work together to put an end to Grindelwald and his growing horde of followers while confronting new and familiar beasts along the way.

As the title of the film suggests, this new installment will direct its microscopic lens deeper into the obscure past of the iconic headmaster, played by Jude Law, as he leads the clash against "the most dangerous wizard in over a century." In addition, the footage provides audiences with an even better look at Mads Mikkelsen, who has undertaken the role of Grindelwald in replace of Johnny Deep, who played the villainous character in the previous two Fantastic Beasts films. Previous trailers and images for the film provided limited looks at the reinvented character, who looks to wreak havoc on the Wizarding World.

While providing a new look at added additions to the magical cast, the footage ignites nostalgia in Harry Potter fanatics, showcasing some recognizable places, such as the Room of Requirement and the beloved Great Hall. A darker tone equally comes across from the moments presented, indicating this battle may be the biggest put on display by the franchise. The magical sequences of action showcase the beauty and ferocity of the imaginative world while still maintaining the charm that has made the franchise such a precious commodity. David Yates returns to direct the film, having done the previous two outings and the last four films from the Harry Potter franchise.

Fantastic Beasts looks to continue after this third installment, with two more films planned for release soon. No context has surfaced regarding the films, but the mystery should surface once Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore makes its long-awaited appearance. The previous two films performed reasonably well at the box office, but the reception was varied, creating some apprehension about the new adventure. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them generated $234 million domestically to average reviews and attracted audiences fresh off the heels of Harry Potter's finale. However, the second outing saw a drop in its domestic revenue and reception, earning $159 million. The reviews for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald were miserable, but things could be better for the franchise's new offering.

Fantastic Beasts can never truly live up to the excitement and awe the Harry Potter franchise was able to manifest, but it can fill the void left in its absence. However, The Secrets of Dumbledore could shift things if done well, but audiences will have to wait until the magical war commences.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will hit theaters April 15, 2022.
