A fan has shown how the Grand Theft Auto 6 map compares to the one in GTA 5, suggesting the upcoming game could be twice as big as the current entry. The map in Grand Theft Auto 5 is already pretty sizeable, measuring approximately 126 square kilometers, so for the next installment in the series to be 50% bigger would give players an enormous amount to explore. While nothing has been said on this front from official sources, it has been speculated that the next game in Rockstar's long-running franchise will deliver something even more ambitious.

Rockstar Games is one of the most influential studios in the world, particularly in the west, with brothers Sam and Dan Houser being at the helm of some of the most critically acclaimed releases in history. Aside from GTA and Red Dead Redemption, the developer has also brought a number of other sleeper hits in the past, such as Bully, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, and the highly controversial Manhunt. Controversy has often followed in the wake of the company, and its immensely successful Grand Theft Auto games, as lucrative as they have been over the years, have drawn ire from the media and many naysayers.

Now, with the sixth installment underway, there's going to be even more leaks and rumors coming thick and fast. This latest one comes from Reddit user ChurchofGTA, as spotted by the Metro, who has laid the leaked map of Grand Theft Auto 6 onto GTA 5's world. While there's very little detail in the former, some of the areas that are believed to be featuring in the upcoming title span a much wider distance than in the fifth game, with the likes of Port Gellhorn Racetrack seen way over to the left, far from the shores of Los Santos.

It's important to say that this is just a theory based on small amounts of information. Not much is known about the next GTA game, other than it's likely to be set in Vice City and will feature a female protagonist. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 footage was leaked by a hacker recently, showing the current work that's been in progress. Some have poo-poo'd the footage, saying the game looks low quality, while others have logically pointed out that it's still in the early stages of development, so is bound to look rough.

Given GTA 5's stance as one of the highest-selling games of all time, from one of the most successful franchises in gaming history, it's not surprising that so many are eagerly awaiting the next entry. It's been nearly ten years since the fifth game came out, so hopefully the hype and long wait will be worth it in the end.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
