Fallout is easily one of the most beloved IPs in all of gaming, with fans to this day debating which out of Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout: New Vegas is better. Since those releases, the franchise has also spawned the multiplayer game, Fallout 76; inspired tons of other games, including both in indie and AAA productions; and so forth. It would also be fair to say that Fallout 5, which would come after The Elder Scrolls 6 according to Todd Howard, has a lot of anticipation behind it already, despite likely being a game released in the 2030s.

Even though Fallout 5 is so far away, fans shouldn't expect a dead year in 2024. A lot is going on across the Fallout fandom and across various types of media.

Fallout 4 PS5 and Xbox Series X Upgrades Coming in 2024

Although originally slated to release in 2023, Bethesda confirmed in December that it was delaying the Fallout 4 next-gen upgrades into 2024. The release of Starfield, as well as the marketing and work surrounding it, likely played some role in this delay. It may be disappointing to fans who wanted to play it last year, but it is coming. Bethesda did not confirm a specific release window for 2024, just sometime this year, and very little is currently known about it. It is expected to get a graphical overhaul with improved framerates, 4K support, and so forth, but if it is aiming for anything loftier, fans will just have to wait and see what the company brings to the table.

Fallout: London's Full Version Will Drop This Year

The modding community is alive and well in Fallout, and one of the largest, most anticipated mods in recent years finally has a release date of April 23. Fallout: London is a Fallout 4 overhaul mod that takes players to London, offering 15 boroughs for exploration, nearly 200 different quests, 7 brand new companions, and various QoL improvements over Fallout 4, including but not limited to, a new crafting system, new perk mechanics, new dialogue system, dynamic weather, traversal options, and tons of new weapons, armor and clothing, and more. As it is a fan-made mod, fans should expect as much build-up heading into launch as a mainline game, but there should be more news and trailers at least. It'll likely get plenty of support post-launch as well.

Other Fallout mods to keep an eye on include the following, among many others:

Fallout 76 Has a Busy Year Ahead of It

Fallout 76 Atlantic City Update part one promotional material

As an MMO, Fallout 76 is constantly getting updates, expansions, and more. That's going to continue in 2024, with several key factors likely or confirmed:

  • Fallout 76's Season 15 roadmap details various events taking place between now and March.
  • Fallout 76: Atlantic City Part 2 is expected summer 2024.
  • Fallout 76’s Shenandoah Map Expansion Update is expected sometime in 2024, though without a confirmed release window.
  • Recurring events like Fasnacht, The Monthman Equinox, Meat Week, and so forth are expected to return.
  • A crossover with the Fallout TV series seems possible.
  • Bethesda is also likely to have a few more tricks up its sleeve for the year.

Fallout TV Series Releases April 2024

On April 12, the eight-episode Fallout Prime Video series will be released. While its reception is ultimately in the air for the time being, it has built up a ton of anticipation with its depiction of the wasteland, the Power Armor, and its characters. The story follows a woman named Lucy, who is a vault dweller heading into the wasteland; a ghoul formerly known as Cooper Howard, who is a bounty hunter; and Maximus, a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel. Further story details are scarce, but fans do know that it is set in Los Angeles. Fans can expect more news, trailers, and reveals in the months and weeks heading into its release.

The Fallout TV series has reportedly received the franchise-worthy thumbs up from Todd Howard and Phil Spencer.

No Fallout 5 News in 2024

It bears repeating that fans should expect zero serious developments regarding Fallout 5. While Howard did say it would come after The Elder Scrolls 6, most of Bethesda's 2024 marketing and work will likely remain focused on Starfield. It's not impossible that fans finally get some concrete news on The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2024 but definitely not on Fallout 5.
