What is Junk in Fallout Shelter?

Junk functions as a loot that you can either sell for caps or use for crafting weapons and armor. These junk items are available in different rarities, each having its use in the crafting game. Besides crafting, selling Junk can be an easier option to get additional caps.

How to Get Junk in Fallout Shelter

Junk can mainly be obtained by completing quests, exploring the wasteland, opening Lunchboxes, and scrapping unwanted weapons and armor.

  • Quests become available once you have the Overseer’s Office and provide opportunities to discover Junk in containers while exploring.
  • Sending dwellers into the Wasteland can result in loot, including Junk.
  • Lunchboxes are earned through completing tasks and can also be purchased at the shop, sometimes contain Junk as part of their random loot.
  • Scrapping unwanted gear from your storage can also yield Junk.

What to do With Junk in Fallout Shelter

how to use junk

In Fallout Shelter, you can use Junk in two ways, depending on your preference.

  1. Firstly, you can sell Junk for Caps. This allows you to get rid of your extra junk from your item menu and, in return, get caps that can be spent on new facilities while also clearing out extra items from your storage.
  2. Apart from selling, you can use Junk to craft weapons and armor from three rarities: Common, Rare, and Legendary. Each rarity represents the specific Junk items you can find. Common Junk includes items like Alarm Clocks and Desk Fans, Rare Junk includes things like Cameras and Teddy Bears, while Legendary Junk includes items like Military Circuit Boards and Giddyup Buttercups.

To craft weapons and armor, you'll need the Weapons Workshop and Outfit Workshop, which require 22 and 32 dwellers respectively, along with 800 caps each. These rooms can be upgraded to unlock the crafting of rare and legendary items, with costs increasing significantly and requiring more dwellers.

Once the workshops are set up by dwellers, you can start crafting items using Junk and caps. However, keep in mind that crafting times vary, with common items taking minutes and legendary items potentially taking days to complete.
