The Fallout television series has reportedly been talked about and getting ramped up for quite a while. It turns out that the ramp-up is hitting the next phase and Amazon Prime's Fallout TV series is finally officially going into production.

Amazon spent months trying to get the rights to the Fallout IP, and finally reached a deal that allowed the company to make a Fallout TV series in 2020. As part of that particular coup, Amazon also announced that it had secured Lisa Joy and Johnathan Nolan's Kilter Films to run the project. Joy and Nolan are likely best known for HBO's Westworld, and while this new show will go deep into the science-fiction genre, it will certainly be telling a different type of story than the show about androids that run amok.

Deadline reports production is scheduled to begin in 2022, with Nolan directing at least the premiere episode of the Fallout TV series. Furthermore, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are on board as showrunners. So far, a cast list hasn't been announced, and there still isn't anything close to a planned release date.

At the time that the Fallout TV series was announced, both Joy and Nolan made it clear that one of the reasons they wanted to do the show was because they've played a ton of games in the franchise. They also seemed to tip off where they wanted to go with the series now that it's in their hands. They called the IP darkly funny, which would seem to indicate that they have a dark comedy in mind when this show finally hits screens.

Nolan taking on the role of director is relatively rare. He's mostly worn the producers' hat when it comes to the projects he's worked on. He made his directorial debut on the CBS series Person of Interest, but he also created and was the executive producer of that series.

The Fallout TV series isn't the only collaboration with Amazon Studios that Kilter Films is working on. The company is also creating a horror anthology series called Unknown. This show will reportedly be quite the departure from the sci-fi genre, as the horror will mostly focus on themes like folklore and legends. The first season is said to focus on an estranged brother and sister who grew up around the infamous Texas Killing Fields. When they return to the area, things start going supernaturally wrong.
