Fallout: New Vegas has been a fan favorite in the franchise for over a decade. The success of the Fallout TV show has players returning to the Mojave Wasteland for more misadventures in New Vegas. There are many unmarked quests and hidden items to find in the wasteland.
This Machine is a unique battle rifle and one of the best guns in the game that isn't an energy weapon. It has text written on the barrel in reference to the classic folk singer Woody Guthrie. It's based off the M-1 Garand from WW2 and makes the same sound when reloading. The only way to get This Machine is by completing the unmarked Dealing with Contreras quest. Here is the quickest way to complete this quest and receive This Machine while avoiding bugs in Fallout: New Vegas.
Every Single Fallout Game (In Chronologoical Order)
With a release history dating back to 1997, the Fallout franchise has a complex timeline. Here's how every game fits into that timeline.
This Machine Location
This Machine is located at Camp McCarran. This is where the NCR has made their headquarters in the ruins of the old McCarran airport.
The outer area of the airport is filled with NCR soldiers and the elite First Recon snipers. They will be friendly as long as you are neutral to the NCR.
Contrera's Supply Shack
Enter the main airport building, then head upstairs to reach the concourse. Use the doors and press on to your left down the ramp to find the Supply Shack.
Sgt. Daniel Contreras acts as a supplier of weapons for the NCR. You can purchase weapons for him and ask for special stock he won't sell to anyone else.
Find Evidence in the Supply Shack
Head upstairs in the supply shack to find the NCR Supply Database terminal. Crouch to sneak and hack it while Contreras isn't looking. You need at least 50 Science skill to do the Average Hack on the computer. Once you've successfully completed the hack, download the weapons manifest. This will reveal that Contreras has been smuggling NCR weapons behind their backs. You now have evidence of Contrera's smuggling.
Go back to the main airport building and find Carrie Boyd on the right side of the second floor behind a door. Do not help her interrogate the Caesar's Legion soldier just yet, as it can glitch out you receiving the gun. Tell her you have evidence on Contreras and she will reward you with This Machine.
This Machine uses .308 rounds and can be repaired using Hunting Rifles. It can also be repaired with most long rifles if you have the Jury-Rigging perk.
