  • Fallout: London, a massive Fallout 4 mod, will be available on GOG after its release due to its huge 30-40 GB file size.
  • The post-apocalyptic London setting will make Fallout: London the biggest Fallout mod ever released by Team FOLON.
  • Delayed by Fallout 4's next-gen update, Fallout: London will be PC-only and is not expected to be released for consoles due to its massive file size.

The creators of the eagerly awaited Fallout 4 total conversion mod Fallout: London have recently revealed that the game will be available for download on GOG after its release. The decision to release the massive Fallout 4 mod on a store is due to the project’s huge file size, which is around 30 to 40 GB.

Fallout: London was originally revealed back in 2021, and it’s currently being developed by a non-profit modding group called Team FOLON. The game will be set in a post-apocalyptic version of London, and it will likely be the biggest Fallout mod ever released.

The dark story of a Vault-Tec experiment gone wrong, one Fallout 4 mod can tide players over until the launch of Fallout: London's total conversion.

Now, Fallout: London’s project lead Dean Carter told The Gamer that the mod will get an official GOG release. According to the gaming website, the team decided on GOG because it was impossible to release the project on Nexus Mods due to its massive file size. Sized at around 30 to 40 GB, Fallout: London is much bigger than total conversion mods like Fallout: The Frontier or Fallout: New California. This decision will not come without some difficulties for GOG’s marketing department, though. A GOG spokesperson revealed to The Gamer that despite Fallout: London being “a release unlike any other,” it’s hard to put it in the store and clearly indicate to customers that this is not a new game or an official DLC due to how expansive it looks.

Fallout 4's Next-Gen Update Is the Biggest Culprit of Fallout: London's Delay

According to the report, GOG was already working to bring Fallout: London to the platform even before the project’s recent delay. Originally, Fallout: London was expected to be out on April 23, releasing soon after the Amazon Prime TV show’s debut. However, Bethesda’s recent Fallout 4 next-gen update broke several mods, and Fallout: London had to be delayed until its devs make sure it’s compatible with the current version of the game.

A few weeks ago, the creators of Fallout: London commented on the Fallout 4 update. At the time, Carter voiced the studio's feelings of being "blindsided" by Bethesda's announcement and expressed frustration over the situation.

Unfortunately, while PC owners will eventually get to play Fallout: London on GOG, the same cannot be said for console gamers. Fallout: London will not be released for consoles due to its huge file size. It’s not entirely impossible that Fallout: London could eventually be available for Xbox at least, considering that Microsoft owns Bethesda, but fans should not hold their breath, as all indications lead to believing that this will be a PC-only release.
