Fallout 76 has received a new update that addresses some major stability issues on PlayStation consoles. And while the game is reportedly no longer crashing as much as it did in recent weeks, Fallout 76 players across all platforms are already calling for more updates.

Bethesda's live-service RPG has been experiencing stability issues on Sony's consoles for a while now. The volume of complaints about Fallout 76 PlayStation crashes spiked in late April 2024, when many PS4 players found themselves unable to complete a single instance of the then-running Invaders from Beyond event, notable for its enormous enemy quantities. The situation reportedly wasn't much better on the PS5, with numerous user testimonies suggesting that Invaders from Beyond was also crashing somewhat frequently on the Xbox One.

Bethesda offers some good news for the most dedicated Fallout 76 fans in response to a recent controversy over the game's Scoreboard changes.

Fallout 76 PlayStation Version Is Now More Stable

On June 21, Bethesda took the game's PlayStation servers offline to apply a "small update," which introduced a number of stability and performance fixes. Early player impressions suggest that this patch significantly improved how Fallout 76 runs on both the PS4 and PS5. Among other things, opening vendor menus reportedly no longer incurs the risk of having the game crash to the infamous PlayStation blue screen of death that merely states "an error has occurred in the following application." This particular issue was introduced in the Fallout 76 Season 17 update on June 12.

Some Fallout 76 Fans Are Asking for More Updates From Bethesda

Weird vendor screen flickering has also been fixed as part of the patch, as was an issue with workbench menu crashes that was more or less identical to the vendor problem. In spite of these improvements, some players are reporting that Fallout 76 is still crashing on PlayStation consoles, just less frequently. According to those testimonies, the update reverted the game's stability to the pre-Skyline Valley levels, with crashes still happening fairly regularly. Given that state of affairs, some Fallout 76 players are already calling for Bethesda to do more to remedy the situation, ideally by fixing the game's (in)stability issues once and for all.

At the same time, players across all platforms have recently taken aim at certain aspects of the newly released Fallout 76 Season 17, including its Dangerous Pastimes event, which has been described as uneventful and lackluster in terms of rewards. Since the first of those complaints surfaced, the activity has completely disappeared from the game, even though Bethesda's previously communicated plan was to add it to the regular event rotation after the first week. It's possible that the developer is currently working on tweaking Dangerous Pastimes rewards and mechanics and has intentionally pulled it from the rotation while that effort is underway.

Xbox and PC users can expect their own version of the June 21 PlayStation update during the week of June 24, Bethesda said. And while it remains to be seen how much fan feedback the studio plans to incorporate into its patches moving forward, what's certain is that the game itself will continue enjoying long-term support. That's according to Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard, who recently suggested that Fallout 76 is planned to keep getting updates for at least two more years, and possibly many more beyond that.
