Fallout 76’s Once In A Blue Moon update finally got a release date and will be available to play very soon. Thanks to the public test server for Fallout 76, the community already knows most of what will be added in the update, though there may still be a few surprises to discover when the content becomes available.

The Once In A Blue Moon update is a free major content update for Fallout 76 that will release at the game’s weekly reset on June 20, 2023. The update will also be arriving alongside Fallout 76’s Season 13, Shoot For The Stars, which is themed around classic Hollywood cinema. Once In A Blue Moon is expected to bring new cryptid enemies to the game, as well as new quests, Public Events, a variety of quality-of-life changes, and overhauls to existing locations.

One of the more exciting additions coming from the new update is the two cryptid enemies that are both inspired by West Virginian folklore. These new mutated creatures, the Blue Devil and the Ogua, will show up at the two new Public Events of the update, and these creatures can also be found in random encounters outside their featured Public Events. The Blue Devil is a werewolf that is capable of applying the Fear status effect to players and the Ogua, otherwise known as the Monongahela River Monster, is an oversized turtle that can retreat inside its shell for safety.

When it comes to the two new Public Events being added to Fallout 76 in the Once In A Blue Moon update, a stand-off with the new cryptids isn’t the only thing that players will face. The Safe and Sound public event is a wave defense, while Beasts of Burden is a variety of objective types, both of which culminate in a fight with the new cryptids. Since these are the featured Public Events of the new update, players can expect to see these Public Events occurring very frequently, which is a great opportunity to collect all of their rewards. Players would be wise to look out for the powerful Named Legendary weapons in Fallout 76 that can come from these Public Events.

The Once In a Blue Moon update will also be adding a few new main quests for players to complete, with new rewards to collect. These quests will see players working with the Blue Ridge Caravan faction from Fallout 76, much like the new Public Events. Since the new quests will be considered main quests, this means that players will only be able to complete them once per character.

As for the quality of life changes, the new update will be resolving the Stamps controversy in Fallout 76 among other general improvements. The update will be removing the Ultracell Battery Charge currency from the game so that players can launch an unrestricted amount of Expeditions, which was previously limited to 1 per day. At the same time, the cost of items from the Stamps vendor will also be getting rebalanced in favor of lower prices. Other than the Expedition and Stamp currency changes, the update will also expand the descriptions for each weapon’s performances, including the stat differences provided by mods in the workbench crafting interfaces.

Other mentionable things that players should be aware of leading up to the new update are that a few locations will be overhauled and that a new mutation is coming to the Daily Ops missions. Both Cranberry Glade and Middle Mountain Cabins will be renovated due to the new Public Events taking place in these locations, so any players who have CAMPs in Fallout 76 near these locations may be forced to relocate. The new Daily Ops mutation, Danger Cloud, functions as an aura surrounding enemies that will drain any nearby players’ health and AP. Overall, it seems like the update will be bringing a lot of fun content to look forward to.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
