They may look like useless items, but junks are incredibly valuable resources in Fallout 76. Players need them to extract crafting materials for pieces of furniture, Power Armors, and, more importantly, weapons. But farming junk materials in larger chunks is a fairly challenging task because they are all over the place.

Unlike farming wood, gathering junk is a slow process requiring more time and effort. And the only way to get over that is by identifying the best farming spots—and server-hopping to exploit them.

Junk Material Farm Locations

In Fallout 76, the best places to gather junk are The Wayward, Overseer’s House, Camp McClintock, Top of the World, WV Lumber Co., and Sugar Grove. These locations have little to no enemies and are filled with resource-rich junk items like clipboards, fans, and phones.

The Wayward

The easiest place to farm junk is The Wayward, located south of Vault 76. This place has lots of trays, cubs, and plastic boxes that could all be scrapped down to useful materials. But the best thing about The Wayward is that it’s threat-free; no enemies are around to bother the farming player.

Overseer’s House

Near The Wayward, there’s another junk farming location called Overseer’s House. Inside this house, the player can find different types of junk materials and will have the opportunity to scrap them on the spot, thanks to the nearby workbenches. Even better, they can store scrapped materials in the Stash Box at the front door.

Camp McClintock

Another enemy-free farming location, Camp McClintock, is excellent for gathering Springs and Ballistic Fibers. In the main room and backyard hangers, the player can find tons of abandoned battered clipboards and military-grade duct tapes that give Springs and Ballistic Fibers.

Top of the World

On the second floor of the Top of the World building, the player can loot large chunks of junk material. They can also head to the nearby location called Pleasant Valley Ski Resort to farm some more fiberglass, wood, and plastic.

WV Lumber Co.

Often used for wood farming, WV Lumber Co. is also a nice spot for junk. The place has a few low-level enemies, making it a hassle-free, lucrative location. But since it’s filled with carpentering tools, WV Lumber Co. is best for gathering Steel Scraps and Screws.

Sugar Grove

Sugar Grove is both the most lucrative and challenging of all junk material farming locations. The location is guarded by many hostile robots and legendary enemies, which interfere with the farming process. But the loot is worth it.

How to Farm a Specific Type of Material in Junks

It is possible to track down and farm only a specific junk material in Fallout 76. For that, the player will need to go to the Item section in the Pip-Boy, open the Junk tab, hover over specific material, and press space on the keyboard. This will mark that item and show an icon next to the junk containing it.

Best Perks for Farming Junk Material

Pack Rat and Strong Back are the best perk cards for junk material farming. The former makes all pieces of junk weigh 25% less, and the latter gives +10 Carry Weight.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
