Fallout 76, like most modern Bethesda RPGs, features a huge range of unique items and collectibles for players to discover. Around every corner, in every chest, and in the pockets of every enemy, players will find something they can use to make their lives easier in Fallout 76's vast wasteland. While most are readily available, there are several items that can be fairly tricky to find, especially for those newcomers freshly released from Vault 76.

Prime Meat is a special item in Fallout 76, and a good example of something that can be difficult for newcomers to find. This is largely a result of the fact that Fallout 76 has a cyclical event structure, and many of the game's most useful items are earned as rewards for completing events. This guide will explain to players how Prime Meat is earned, and what can be done with it once it is acquired.

How to Get Prime Meat in Fallout 76

Eviction Notice

Prime Meat is a special form of food item that is not meant to be eaten, which can be confusing for many players. Unlike other raw food items in Fallout 76, Prime Meat is earned through events. The event that rewards players with Prime Meat is called Primal Cuts.

Primal Cuts was originally released as part of the Nuclear Winter update. The event was a prominent feature for a while, but as new content was subsequently released, it has entered into rotation with many other events, such as The Mothman Equinox, Tea Time, and many others.

When Does the Primal Cuts Event Happen in Fallout 76?

The Primal Cuts event is now one of two events that make up the larger Meat Week community event. As previously mentioned, this event is not permanent, but just one part of a cyclical series of events that come and go.

The next Meat Week community event is scheduled to run from May 21st, 2024 - June 4th, 2024.

Primal Cuts Explained:

  • When the Primal Cuts event is active, players will see the event taking place in 3 of the 5 regions of the map. The events occur every 15 minutes.
  • Players must defeat several waves of Prime Beasts, with each location offering its own variation. The event is timed, and rewards will be given depending on how well players did within the time limit.
  • Prime Meat is the reward, with the amount varying based on performance.

What to Do With Prime Meat in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 Grahm's Meat Cook

After completing the Primal Cuts event, players will likely wonder what they should do with Prime Meat. While it is certainly possible to treat it like any other meat, this should be avoided at all costs. Instead, players will want to take their Prime Meat to the second event that makes up Meat Week, Grahm's Meat-Cook.

Remember, Prime Meat spoils like any other meat. The best option is to head straight to the next scheduled Grahm's Meat-Cook event to avoid losing any Prime Meat to spoilage.

Grahm's Meat-Cook Explained:

  • Grahm's Meat-Cook occurs at the top of every hour (12:00, 1:00, etc.), and is located just south of Vault 76.
  • The Meat-Cook requires players to maintain several cooking pits, and complete multiple tasks to ultimately earn a variety of rewards. Players can use their Prime Meat in one specific section of the event.
  • Players can donate up to three stacks of Prime Meat to the cauldron, grill, or meat spits. Each stack must contain 5 pieces of Prime Meat.
  • For each stack of Prime Meat the player donates to the barbecue, they will receive 5 Legendary scrip, which is used to purchase Legendary items.
  • Additionally, players will receive a boon for each stack of Prime Meat donated, provided in the form of Meat Sweats. Meat Sweats provides the following temporary buffs:
