The Railway Rifle is a home-made steel stake launcher that's popular among many players of Fallout 76. It boasts a high per-shot damage value in either semi-auto or full-auto fire modes with amazing efficiency for ammunition that's very easy to manufacture.

This is easily one of the best weapons in Fallout 76, especially for VATS Commando builds. If you're looking to get a Railway Rifle for yourself, here are some places where you can possibly find one.

Where To Find Railway Rifles in Fallout 76

Berkeley Springs Station in the Fallout 76 map

You can get a Railway Rifle as a random drop from boss enemies anywhere in the Appalachian wasteland. However, if you've got the Caps, the absolute best way to get a Railway Rifle is to just craft one. You can purchase the plans for it from the robot vendor at the Berkeley Springs Station on the western side of the Mire. The plan costs approximately 1800 Caps — if you don't have enough money, try doing public events, as they're one of the fastest ways to earn Caps in Fallout 76.

To craft a Railway Rifle, you'll need Gunsmith 3 and the following materials (quantity depends on chosen item level):

  • Adhesive
  • Gear
  • Nuclear Material
  • OIl
  • Plastic
  • Screw
  • Steel

Among these materials, Adhesives and Screws will likely be the hardest ones to find. You can get Screws in Fallout 76 by scrapping items like typewriters and desk fans. Meanwhile, Adhesives can be scrapped from various kinds of glue and tape, or crafted from Vegetable Starch. The latter can be made at any Cooking Station using Mutfruit, Corn, and Tatos.

Best Railway Rifle Rolls

A Bloodied Railway Rifle in Fallout 76

As mentioned earlier, the Railway Rifle shines best as a fully-automatic weapon for Commando build. It's not necessarily bad as a semi-auto weapon, but it gets outperformed by plenty of other guns in the same category, like Fallout 76's Lever Gun, Gauss Rifle, and Plasma Rifle.

Regardless of what playstyle you choose, the Railway Rifle can tear through enemies with ease. Here are some legendary modifier rolls that you should be looking out for:

  • Bloodied: Gain bonus damage as your health gets lower.
  • Two Shot: Shoot two projectiles instead of one, dealing 25% more total damage. Comes with an accuracy and recoil penalty.
  • Quad: Quadruples your magazine size. Best used for Commando builds.
  • Aristocrats: Deal more damage based on how many Caps you have.
  • Anti-Armor: Ignore 50% of your target's armor.
  • Inertial: Gain 15 AP with each kill.
  • VATS Enhanced: Use less AP when firing in VATS.

For Commando players, keep in mind that the Railway Rifle's recoil is very high, making it a poor choice for non-VATS users. Conversely, it is an excellent VATS weapon, especially when it rolls with the Inertial and VATS Enhanced legendary effects.
