There are some materials that are harder to come across than others, and in Fallout 76, Black Titanium is at the pinnacle of the rarity pyramid when it comes to high-tier crafting components. It comes in 3 forms: Black Titanium, Black Titanium Scrap, and Black Titanium Ore, all of which are linked.

Components that players acquire by breaking down junk in Fallout 76 are crucial for everything from base building to repairing weapons and armor.

Black Titanium is used primarily as a major component in the Excavator Power Armor. The most common way to find these dark metal resources is in Black Titanium Ore form or as scrap.

Updated on March 3, 2024, by Benjamin Joe: Fallout 76 has seen a rise in popularity thanks to the release of the Fallout TV series. New players are taking to the ruins of post-war Appalachia and soaking up all it has to offer. Because of the rise in popularity, it seems like a good time to give this article an update. Since it is such a rare crafting component, finding Black Titanium can be a bit of a grind in Fallout 76. Luckily, there are some simple things players can do to make the whole process much easier and quicker.

Items That Contain Black Titanium And Where It Can Be Farmed

There Are A Couple Of Options

player examining miner suit scrap in the menu.

Players can break down High Int Rocks and Mole Suits at any Workbench to produce Black Titanium Scrap. High Int Rocks gives the player 2 Black Titanium Scraps and Miner Suit Scraps provide the player with 1 piece of scrap. High Int Rocks aren't a good way of farming Black Titanium as they can only be obtained from Dr. Bethy Mangano near Clarksburg.

As for Mole Miner Suits, unsurprisingly, they can be found on Mole Miners. Killing Mole Miners is one of the best ways to get Black Titanium quickly in Fallout 76.

Here are the best locations to find, defeat, and loot Mole Miners for their Miner Suit Scraps:

  • South Cutthroat camp
  • Monongah power plant
  • Uncanny Caverns
  • Top of the World
  • Welch
  • Blackwater Mine
  • Big Bend Tunnel West

Events That Spawn Mole Miners

Farm Black Titanium Faster At Certain Events

The Event Breach And Clear in Fallout 76

There are a few great events that players looking for Black Titanium should join. While the locations listed above are great for hunting Mole Miners, other players who are looking for Black Titanium may travel to the locations and clear out all the enemies. This means that there's no guarantee that the player will be able to find living Mole Miners at the locations listed above.

The events that spawn in the most Mole Miners can be seen below. Each one is a great way to get not only extra Black Titanium but lots of other junk items too, like steel.

  • Lode Baring
  • Tunnel of Love
  • Uranium Fever
  • Breach And Clear

Tips For Taking Down Mole Miners

Make Hunting Mole Miners A Little Easier

A Mole Miner in A Shack in Fallout 76

These disgusting little mutants are what happened to a bunch of humans who were warped by radiation in or around underground locations in Appalachia.

They tend to hang out in large groups, sometimes accompanied by naked mole-rat, and will attack players as a deadly posse. They can wield powerful ranged weapons such as Missile Launchers, Shotguns, and more, so they pose a great threat to those who stumble into their territory unprepared.

The best way to take down mole miners is with a powerful gun. Weapons like automatic rifles with good legendary effects are great for taking down enemies like Mole Miners. While some Mole Miners use Missile Launchers, lots of them tend to prefer using a Mole Miner Gauntlet. Because it's a melee weapon, Mole Miners need to get close to the player to inflict damage. So, using a good gun is always a safe bet.

Other Ways To Farm Black Titanium Scrap

Craft It Or Kill Deathclaws

Black Titanium Ore can be crafted into Black Titanium Scrap at a chemistry station, though the ratio is a bit expensive. It takes 4 Acid and 3 Black Titanium Ore in order to craft 2 Black Titanium Scrap. However, this scrap can also be looted from Deathclaws. Deathclaws can usually be found in the following locations:

  • Deathclaw Island
  • Abandoned Waste Dump
  • Thunder Mountain Substation

Deathclaws can also pop up in a few different events:

  • Radiation Rumble
  • Scorched Earth
  • Tunnel Of Love
  • Spin the Wheel

While it is fairly costly to turn Black Titanium Ore into scrap, it can be a beneficial way for players who have an abundance of Acid to get extra Black Titanium.

Belching Betty is a mine located in the Ash Heap region that has lots of Black Titanium Ore players can mine.

There's also an event that can randomly start in the Ash Heap region called Breach and Clear. This event is great for getting different types of ore. This includes Black Titanium Ore.

Players can also obtain Black Titanium Ore by purchasing maps from U-Mine-It! Vending Machines. Each map will point the player towards a dig site where they can dig to get a healthy amount of ore. These machines can be found in:

  • Welch
  • The Rusty Pick
  • Nuka-Cola Factory
  • Mount Blair
  • Sal's Grinders

What Black Titanium Is Used To Craft & Repair

A Crucial Component For Some Items

power armor and weapon made from black titanium.

There are only 2 things crafted and repaired with Black Titanium: Excavator Power Armor and Cultist Blades. The former is the most expensive, as each of the 6 pieces for the Power Armor needs a lot of Black Titanium.

The Cultist Blade is much cheaper to make, but it isn't really that useful. It doesn't do a lot of base damage, and it doesn't have the best durability when compared to other melee weapons. If the player wants to use melee weapons, then they are better off using something like a Deathclaw Gauntlet or a Chainsaw. The base stats for the Cultist Blade can be seen below.
