Cap or Bottle Cap (stylized: Bottlecap) is a reserved currency in Fallout 76. Within the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, Caps are essential for trading, bartering, and compensating individuals in Appalachia. In terms of gameplay, players rely on Caps to purchase items and facilitate fast travel. They earn Caps for completing quests, killing enemies, looting stashes, or selling items.

In the current version of the game, each character can stack up to 40,000 Bottlecaps. If players choose to trade goods for Caps, they can make up to 1,400 Caps per day. This limit exists because Fallout 76 Vendors collectively have a finite pool of Caps available for trading.

Best Ways to Farm Caps in Fallout 76

Aside from selling excess items to Vendors, other ways of farming Caps in Fallout 76 include vending valuables with CAMP Vendors, harvesting and reselling plants or drinks, hunting down Cap stashes, and completing daily missions and world events.

Resell West Tek Weapons

Fallout 76 West Tek Research Facility (1)

One of the fastest ways to earn more Caps in Fallout 76 is by farming and reselling weapons at the West Tek research center. This facility teems with robots and mutants that drop valuable weaponry. Engaging in a daily raid at this location can yield a couple of hundred Bottlecaps.

Hunt Down Bottlecap Stashes

Cap Stash Farming

The best way to make easy Caps is by looting Cap Stashes that spawn in specific locations. Every time players join a new server, there's a chance of discovering boxes brimming with Bottlecaps across the map. All they need to do is revisit these spots whenever possible. For enhanced earnings, players can equip the Cap Collector perk in advance, allowing them to earn up to 100% more currency from these stashes.

Best locations to farm Cap Stashes:

  • Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06
  • Abandoned Mine Shaft 4
  • Big B's Rest Stop
  • Eastern Regional Penitentiary
  • Hornwright Estate
  • Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant

Get the Daily 1,400 Caps from the Vendors

A basic form of Cap farming is selling unused items to Vendors because they have 1,400 Caps to spend per day. The best items for that are ammunition and Nuka Colas. But players are advised to exchange anything they don’t need with Caps.

The daily Vendor limit is shared among all of them. When a player sells 1,400 Cap worth of items to one Vendor, all other merchants will also reach the quota. So, the player will need to wait for 24 hours before they can continue farming Caps.

Set Up a CAMP Vending Machine

Fallout 76 Vending Machine

A CAMP Vending Machine is a personal vendor at the base. Players can put their valuables or unwanted items in this device, set prices, and wait for other players to come and buy them. This is the ideal way of farming Caps because it has a much higher limit than the daily Vendors’ cap and—more importantly—is passive profit.

The best items for selling at CAMP Vendors are Legendaries, Ultracite Ammo, rare costumes, Mutation Serums, and Power Armor pieces or plans.

Farm and Resell Edibles and Drinks

Growing Tato and purifying water at the CAMP are two ideal ways of farming Caps. Vendors pay up to 5 Caps per bottle of purified water and 2 per Tato, making them some of the most profitable consumables in the game. And the good thing is that they come for free, meaning that the overall profit margin is much higher than other Cap farming methods.

Participate in World Events

Most Events in Fallout 76 reward the participants with Caps. But the most lucrative ones are Test Your Metal, Free Range, Uranium Fever, Scorched Earth, and A Colossal Problem. During these quests, players earn Legendary and rare items to sell for an extra profit.

Best Perk Cards for Farming More Caps

Fallout 76 Fortune Finder Perk Card

The ideal perk cards for making fast caps in Fallout 76 are Cap Collector, Fortune Finder, Hard Bargain, and Travel Agent. Here’s what each does:

  • Cap Collector: Doubles the Caps Stashes’ loot.
  • Fortune Finder: Makes a noise when a Caps Stash is nearby.
  • Hard Bargain: Increasing the profit margin of trades.
  • Travel Agent: Allows players to save 30% on Caps spent on fast travel, which can help conserve currency, particularly during the early stages of surviving Appalachia.

Tips for Making Caps Fast

For those looking to make more money quickly, these trading and bartering strategies will prove beneficial:

  • Enhance Charisma: Before vending valuables, players should equip Perk Cards such as Hard Bargain and consume Charisma-boosting items like Grape Mentats. This will enable them to obtain more Caps per sale, boosting their overall profits in each farming session.
  • Go with one-time purchases: Avoid spending Caps on collectibles and ammunition, as Appalachia Vendors are known for overpricing such items. Instead, focus on acquiring plans, blueprints, and one-time-only items that offer greater long-term value. Additionally, consider purchasing from other players' vending machines rather than in-game Vendors, as they often provide better prices for the same items.
  • Get the Atlantic City Dice Table: For 70 Stamps, players can acquire a gambling table, enabling them to earn up to 500 Caps per bet. While this isn't a sustainable income source, gambling could expedite Caps farming for high-level players with a surplus of Bottlecaps to invest in dice games.
