Following a rocky launch in 2018, Fallout 76 has now matured into an excellent live service game. With competitive PvP aspects, it takes place in the same style of game world as all other Fallout games. The game can be played solo, and PvP can be avoided in many ways, but to get the best from Fallout 76, players will want to play with a group of friends, and get into the fun PvP aspects as well.

21 Beginner Tips for Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is significantly different from other games in the series, so players will need to take advantage of these tips to succeed in the game.

Fallout 76 isn’t all about PvP. There is a lot of PvE content available, including many quests. New players will want to tackle some of these as soon as possible, including side quests, as this is a good way to get some decent gear, and to earn some quick bottle caps and experience.

6 An Organic Solution

Anti-Radiation Meds

An Organic Solution Fallout 76 Side Quest
  • Quest Giver: Ella Ame

Quest Locations:

  • Ella Ames' Bunker
  • Southhampton Estate
  • Crevasse Dam
  • Dyer Chemical

Quest Rewards:

  • RadShield
  • Daisycutter
  • Random Ammo
  • Random Aid
  • Bottle Caps
  • RadShield Crafting Unlock
  • 50 XP

There is a very good reason why this quest made a list of the best side quests to complete as soon as possible. It is because one of the quest rewards is the crafting recipe for RadShield. This is an incredibly useful drug that will make any player’s life in Fallout 76 much easier, helping them survive radiation damage.

Players who enjoy melee combat in Fallout 76 should stay away from the following melee weapons that are less than ideal.

The corpse of Ella Ames starts the quest, and the player is told that the Free States have likely developed a drug that protects people from the negative effects of radiation. This is where the player takes over, and is guided through the quest to complete the RadShield research.

5 Bureau Of Tourism

Working For The Mayor

Bureau of Tourism Fallout 76 Side Quest
  • Quest Giver: The Mayor of Grafton

Question Locations:

  • Grafton
  • Wavy Willard's Water Park
  • Clarksburg Shooting Club
  • Prickett's Fort
  • Black Bear Lodge

Quest Rewards:

  • 50 XP
  • Trail Warden
  • Components
  • Random Ammo
  • Random Aid Item

The Trail Warden armor that is given as a quest reward for this quest is very useful early on in Fallout 76, and this is why this quest made the list. It is pretty simple to complete, all the player has to do is find the Mayor of Grafton and suffer the long quest introduction.

Once the quest has been accepted, the player will be sent to four separate locations to complete tasks. These tasks include repairing a terminal, cleaning up beer bottles, repairing a token dispenser, and repairing a water valve. Once these tasks are complete, the player just has to go back to the Mayor and get their rewards.

4 Cold Case

Becoming A Detective

  • Woods Estate

  • Perfect Storm

This quest's reward, Perfect Storm, is a good automatic rifle that early-game players will find extremely useful, and in many cases, this weapon will last until the late-game before it needs to be replaced. Starting the quest means getting to Clarksburg and finding Miss Annie.

Fallout 76: 7 Worst Ranged Weapons, Ranked

Some ranged weapons in Fallout 76 are less than ideal, and simply not worth the player's time. Here's which ones to avoid.

This is a pretty long quest, as there are 14 different stages to complete. Each of these stages sends the player to search for clues, and use them to get closer to solving the case. Be prepared to spend quite some time finding the clues, as some are hard to track down. Alternatively, watch a quest guide video to find out exactly where to look, which will take away a great deal form the experience, but will speed up the process of completing it.

3 Earth Mover

A Very SImple New Player Quest

Earth Mover Fallout 76 Side Quest
  • Quest Giver: Automatically Given

Quest Locations:

  • Mount Blair

Quest Rewards:

  • Bottle Caps
  • 50 XP

This quest is about as basic as they come, and will be something that most new players will do very early on in Fallout 76. The quest rewards are nothing special, but it is such an easy quest to finish (it doesn’t even require finding a quest giver) that most players will complete it almost by accident whilst enjoying the early game.

New players to Fallout 76 will struggle to find bottle caps early on, so the caps that this quest gives as a reward are going to be super useful at this stage of the campaign. Quick money is never a bad thing to get.

2 Lucky Strike

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It’s Off To Mine We Go!

Lucky Strike Fallout 76 Side Quest

Quest Giver:

  • Excavator's Map
  • Miner's Map
  • Prospector's Map

Quest Locations:

  • Multiple Ash Heaps

Quest Rewards:

  • 5 Types Of Metal Scrap
  • Random Aid Item
  • Random Ammo
  • Bottle Caps
  • 300 XP

This is an excellent quest for new solo players to complete as early as possible when playing Fallout 76. The player will need to loot one of the three types of maps first though, just to be able to start this quest. It can take some time to complete, as there is a lot of running around digging up random ash heaps until finishing the quest items.

Fallout 76: 5 Worst Power Armor, Ranked

While every Power Armor in Fallout 76 serves a vital role in survival, a few models fail to impress.

With 300 XP, ammo, and caps as a reward for a very simple quest, it is a good use of a new player's time to complete this quest, especially if it can be completed while working on the main quest. It might not be worth it at later game stages though, due to the fact there are more efficient ways to farm caps and EXP later in the game.

1 Order Of Mysteries

Long Multi-Quest Faction Mission

Order of Mysteries Fallout 76 Side Quest
  • Quest Giver: Corpse of a young woman inside Riverside Manor

Quest Locations:

  • Tygart Water Treatment
  • Riverside Manor
  • Garrahan Mining Headquarters
  • The Whitespring Resort
  • Sugar Grove
  • Pleasant Valley Ski Resort
  • Seneca Rocks

Quest Rewards:

  • Worn Veil
  • Tattered Dress
  • Veil of Secrets
  • Garb of Mysteries
  • Phantom Device
  • Blade of Bastet
  • Voice of Set
  • Eye of Ra

"Order of Mysteries" is the game's first multi-series quest that forms part of the overall set of faction missions players can tackle in Fallout 76. These quests need to be completed in order, and the player will want to complete all the faction quests as soon as possible, so that they can align with a faction. "Order of Mysteries" is the initial stage of this process.

This is a very long quest series, and it will take quite some time to complete. It may be worth finding a playthrough video to watch to complete it as quickly and efficiently as possible. The quest rewards are rather quirky and of limited use, but the experience gain is outstanding.
