Fallout 76 Vault Tier List

Between cut and upcoming content, Fallout 76 features several Vault-Tec Vaults, some of which have a lasting impact on the franchise’s lore.

This thoughtful guide article aims to help players understand the strategic art of selling. It highlights the top ten items that are ripe for exchange, including highly coveted serums and even the mundane but precious screws.

Updated on May 26, 2024, by Jake Fillery: With new vault dweller heading out into the wastelands in Fallout 76, it might benefit them to find a useful list of items that they will easily stumble across upon their journeys in order to discover things that just aren't worth their time in carrying. Plenty of useful and useless items can be sold for caps, allowing Fallout 76 players to amass a fortune with the loot that they will find from enemies, containers, and other sources.

14 Power Armor Pieces

Don't Waste Carry Weight On Hoarding Useless Armor

When wandering the Wasteland, it's expected to find a rogue power armor station left behind, or at a camp with no consequences for simply taking it. Yet, at a low level, this power armor is effectively useless, and the power armor pieces found on the frame are basically just free scrap, since players will not have the level requirements to make use of it, or the fusion cores.

Instead, players should pluck the pieces of armor from the frame and venture to a trader to sell them. While they might get anywhere from 1-5 caps for each piece, it's better than nothing, especially when every cap matters to new players.

13 Lackluster Weapons

Repair Those That Benefit, Sell Those That Do Not

Pipe Pistol In Fallout 76

Surviving the Wasteland is no easy task, but luckily there are plenty of weapons to aid this task. Whether it's melee-focused or a gun, players are going to find plenty of weapons on the enemies that they battle, so looting them all is a good start, especially if it means they are getting more ammo. Yet, with these weapons, it's likely that a few shotguns and pipe pistols will grace their inventory, netting them 2-6 caps.

Weapons can definitely take up plenty of room in a player's inventory, so feel free to scrap weapons that each individual player deems obsolete or worthless to keep. Whether it's a lack of ammo, a high level requirement, or simply an unnecessary weapon to repair, just sell them off.

12 Addictive Chems

Avoid Addictive Substances By Selling Them

When entering the Wasteland, it might be a tad unsettling to see death and monsters at every turn, but that doesn't mean players should turn to harmful substances. When players find an abundance of Mentats, Buffout, Jet, and other foul chems, they should sell them, even if that price is around 3 Caps each.

The Fallout series has expanded well past the main video game entries, providing plenty of opportunities to explore different wastelands.

The reason it's a good idea to sell chems is that although they do improve some stats for a momentary amount of time, they also can become addictive to the player character, creating penalties if that addiction is not satiated. It's always best to just keep clean, and only worry about hunger, thirst, and rads.

11 Useless Throwables

Make Every Explosive Count By Only Using The Best

Explosives are a useful piece of weaponry that players will eventually stumble upon across their adventures, but not all of them are good. Players are going to find multiple types, whether those are fragmentation mines, grenades, or molotov cocktails. Each can be sold for 2-4 caps, and they definitely should be sold.

It's always handy to have a few explosives on hand, especially when they are thrown with a hot key that requires no weapon swapping. Yet, there's not much point in having a variety, especially with mines and molotovs, as they're more trouble than they are worth.

10 Junk

To Scrap Or Sell; That Is The Question

A room full of Fallout 76 Pre-War junk items

Junk is only suitable for two things: scrapping and selling. Players looking to build will need to hang on to some junk items in order to scrap them for materials. However, some items (gold, silver, and cork in particular) are more useful to the player as caps instead.

The market can fluctuate, but players can expect to earn anywhere from 1-5 caps per unit depending on the rarity of the resource. Head over to vendors in popular settlements like Whitespring or train stations to make a sale. Not only will this earn caps, but it will also make traveling easier by lightening the load.

9 Serums

Serums are in high demand and can fetch 400 to 1000 caps each. Specialized vendors like MODUS in the Enclave or player-to-player trading hubs are suitable locations to sell them. Making serums can be difficult and isn't really accessible until later in the game. However, it's a great way for players to earn caps once they've unlocked the ability.

However, serums can also be very valuable from a game-play perspective, so holding on to them for personal use may provide strategic advantages. Each player will have to decide whether they're better in their inventory or in their pocket as caps.

8 Outfits

Selling Caps For Caps

For players who aren't concerned about fashion, selling outfits could be an excellent way to make some quick caps. Outfits come in different styles and rarities, with values ranging from 10 to 50 caps. These can be sold to all settlement vendors, as well as other players in trading hubs.

This is a great way to accumulate caps quickly because the wasteland is full of unique outfits just waiting to be discovered. However, some outfits offer special bonuses or are particularly aesthetically pleasing, making it more difficult to part ways with them.

7 Nuclear Key Cards

The Key To Riches

A Fallout 76 RoboBo Key Card

There's only a limited demand for spare key cards in the game. However, they can be sold to vendors or to players interested in launching nukes for a potential price of 50–100 caps. If the player doesn't plan on launching nukes, selling any extra key cards they have is a practical way to earn some extra caps.

That said, players interested in endgame activities and those who enjoy launching nukes (hey, who doesn't in Fallout) should hold onto their key cards in order to see everything.

6 Super Mutant Hands

Get The Upper-Hand With Caps

Selling super mutant hands is a practical way to earn around 20–30 caps each. These can be sold through general vendors or player-to-player transactions. Although these hands have limited crafting uses, keeping a few can be beneficial for future crafting endeavors or collecting unique items.

The biggest hindrance to selling Super Mutant Hands is acquiring them, which might seem daunting the first time players step foot in Appalachia and come across a Super Mutant. But don't worry, it doesn't take long before players are well-equipped to take on these monsters.

5 Screws

Found And Sold In Abundance

An antique globe with a bright green text overlay saying "antique globe"

Generally, screws can earn around 1–3 caps per screw, which doesn't seem like much, but it quickly adds up. Vendors and vending machines are the primary outlets for selling screws. Excess screws can be a lucrative source of caps as players with a keen eye can expect to find them in abundance.

Players who are avid crafters, might want to hang on to them as screws are a crucial crafting component, so keeping a reserve is advisable for weapon and armor modifications. However, having a reserve of about 50 should be enough, so players can feel free to sell any they have in excess of that.

4 Ammunition

Very Common But Low Caps Value

The price of ammo varies from 1 to 5 caps per unit, depending on the type of ammo. Ammo can be sold to most vendors throughout the map, or to other players.

Players with unwanted or excess ammo can convert it into caps to get funds for any essentials. Typically, players will gravitate towards one or two types of guns that they prefer, so it doesn't make sense to hang on to sniper rifle bullets if all they ever use is a shotgun, for example. Just like with screws, it's recommended that players keep a certain supply of ammo, and just sell the rest if they're not using it.

3 Bobble Heads

What's A Fallout Game Without Bobble Heads?

In Fallout 76, bobble heads are pretty much always in high demand and can be sold for a reasonable price ranging from 50 to 200 caps each. Players can sell them through specialized vendors, player-to-player trades, or in-game markets.

Bobbleheads provide a boost to a players SPECIAL stats in Fallout 76, and these Bobbleheads are the best ones to look for.

Selling duplicates of bobble heads can be a great way to earn money. Although bobble heads provide temporary buffs that can be useful during challenging encounters, players don't get extra buffs for having more than one of the same, plus there will always be buffs that don't suit everyone's play style.

2 Bobby Pins

Fairly Common For Eagle-Eyed Players

Typically, bobby pins are worth about 1–2 caps each. Selling extra bobby pins is an effortless way to earn additional caps while maintaining functionality. It's always wise for players to keep a stash of bobby pins (maybe around 50-100) for lock picking challenges, which happen a lot as players explore the wasteland.

But just like ammo and screws, once a stash has been built up, there's no point in hanging on to any extras.

1 Spices

On The Rarer Side, But Easily Farmable For Caps

A makeshift kitchen made in Fallout 76

The number of caps per unit for selling spices varies, but it's usually between 2 and 5 caps. General vendors or players with a culinary interest will always be interested in buying rare or interesting spices. Selling spices is a simple way to convert surplus resources into caps.

That said, holding onto spices can be beneficial for players who enjoy cooking in the game or plan to craft food items with unique bonuses, as it can enhance their survival abilities.
