Fallout 76 is still going strong with frequent updates and overall continued support, over four years after the game was initially released in 2018. The next major content updates scheduled to come to Fallout 76 will be the two-part Atlantic City updates, bringing a variety of new content that will take place in never-before-seen locations so far in the Fallout franchise.

Parts of the first Atlantic City update were made available in Fallout 76’s Public Test Server for players to experiment ahead of the update’s upcoming release. Many players were eager to compare Fallout 76’s new Neapolitan Casino to some of the famous casinos from Fallout: New Vegas, and this connection proves that now is the perfect time for a Fallout: New Vegas sequel. Getting to explore Fallout 76’s Neapolitan Casino firsthand shows just how far the franchise has come since both of these games were released, highlighting the potential that Fallout: New Vegas 2 could have.

A Fallout: New Vegas Sequel Should Bring Heists to the FranchiseFallout New Vegas Flag Cover

The new Tax Evasion Expedition in Fallout 76’s upcoming Atlantic City update is a repeatable mission that tasks players with completing various randomized objectives in the new Neapolitan Casino and nearby areas. While this location itself has elicited comparisons to the style and scenery of Fallout: New Vegas, there is one significant difference between the casinos in Fallout 76 and Fallout: New Vegas. Specifically, parts of Fallout 76’s Tax Evasion Expedition play out fairly similar to a heist of the casino, which is something that the original Fallout: New Vegas never fully explored.

The Tax Evasion Expedition isn’t a fully fleshed-out casino heist, but certain mission objectives and the overall atmosphere of the new locations scratch enough of the surface to leave players wanting more. From casino shootouts to playing rigged slot machines, the makings of a casino heist are within arms reach for the Fallout franchise. There are a few community mods for Fallout: New Vegas that have stepped up to the challenge of introducing casino heists, but it’s something that the Fallout franchise hasn’t officially explored yet. With this in mind, a Fallout: New Vegas sequel could be the perfect opportunity to allow players to perform casino heists and other related activities.

In many ways, Fallout: New Vegas is a departure from the standard games in the Fallout franchise, beyond the fact that it was created by a fresh development team. While the game still has the franchise’s signature features and gameplay elements like VATS and Vault-tech’s sinister Vaults, the game’s unique setting and style arguably set it apart from the other Fallout games. Consequently, casino heists would be a natural progression for a Fallout: New Vegas sequel, whereas this kind of feature might feel out of place in any of the other Fallout games.

While community mods, or even a surprise expansion for Fallout: New Vegas could help to bring casino heists into the game, Fallout: New Vegas is more than deserving of a proper sequel. With new enemies, all the latest quality-of-life improvements, and the possibility for players to build their own casinos with Fallout’s CAMP building system, Fallout: New Vegas 2 is a recipe for success waiting to happen.

For most players who are familiar with the Fallout franchise games, Fallout: New Vegas is generally the fan favorite. For this reason, a Fallout: New Vegas sequel is long overdue, regardless of the prospect of introducing casino heists to the franchise. Another reason why a Fallout: New Vegas sequel needs to happen after Fallout 76 is that it could relieve some of the pressure and expectations for Fallout 5. Fallout 5 is still many years away from seeing the light of day, and after the state of Starfield and Fallout 76, Fallout 5 has some massive shoes to fill.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
