Fallout 4 has many places to explore and its world is full of strange and interesting sights, sounds, and irradiated organisms. Maybe of which are easily overlooked. As a survivor recently awoken from a long slumber, the player is usually too occupied with not being torn apart by horribly mutated fiends or gunned down by enraged bandits to look under every rock and log for loot.

Until they reach a higher level, anyway. When exploration becomes less dangerous and treasure hunting becomes more alluring, players end up finding some unexpected things while traveling the wastelands of post-apocalyptic Boston.

10 East City Downs Racetrack

As the Sole Survivor approaches this oval raceway they will begin to hear commentary similar to what one would hear at a racetrack for horses, but there are no equines here. Instead, there are robots making loops for the entertainment of a few citizens. Mister Handys, assaultrons, protectrons, and even an eyebot can be spotted running or flying alongside one another for the chance at victory. There are a few quests that take the player through this region of the map, but none that necessarily require fighting, making this a lovely place to sit back, chug an ice-cold Gwinnett Pale, and enjoy the sporting event.

9 Permanent Deathclaw Nest

Fallout 4 Deathclaw

Deathclaws are some of the most fearsome enemies in the game, and for good reason. They're strong, fast, and smarter than one would expect. Though, they don't start out this deadly. Nests of these beasts can be found all over the map, but one, in particular, stands out. North of Fort Hagen, the player can find the Federal Ration Stockpile, where some valuable items can be looted. More alarmingly though, there is a permanent deathclaw nest just south-west of the site. The eggs here can be harvested and respawn at least once, making it a decent place to find some great cooking ingredients.

8 The Omelet That Cures Addiction

Utilizing a cooking station, players can fry up some delicious, and beneficial, treats. Most simply restore health or give buffs to one of the Sole Survivor's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats, but there is one particular omelet that can do much more. The disgusting-sounding radscorpion egg omelet not only restores a fair bit of health but also cures addictions. All addictions. With a recipe that only requires the aforementioned eggs and some purified water, it can be a great cost-efficient way to deal with one's drug-related habits.

7 Cannibalism Is Addictive

A macabre perk that is looked down on by most NPCs if they witness the Sole Survivor indulging in this dark deed. Though, it can be a useful one to pick up if the player is going with a build that doesn't rely on the opinions of others.

With that said, eating too many dead bodies can lead to one acquiring the Dark Craving condition, which is classified as an addiction. This will make it impossible for the player to be satisfied by eating anything other than the flesh of man or mutant, among a few other negative aspects.

6 Boston: Become Human

Fallout 4 Curie as a humanoid and as a robot

Curie, the Miss Nanny bot, is a useful companion to have, for she hands out stimpaks like candy and can heal the player automatically in certain dire circumstances. She also has one of the most interesting quests in the game. Through interacting with characters in the Memory Den and leveling up one's relationship with the kindly robot, one can transfer Curie's mind into the body of a Synth.

5 Thinking Ahead

Assaultrons are one of the more dangerous robotic foes or allies one can encounter in the wastelands. Though gaining one as a companion is not the only way to make use of their might. From a large chest found in Fort Hagen's hangar, one can find a severed assaultron head. This is a unique weapon with an odd legendary modification called "Charging". When this cranium-turned-gun is fired, this mod causes the player to take fifty points of radiation damage, making it very dangerous to use.

4 Batter Up!

The baseball bats found around Boston are not the worst melee weapons one can use, but there are usually better ones that do a great deal more damage. But sometimes more damage is not all that makes a weapon more effective. The 2076 World Series Baseball Bat is a unique weapon that has a hilarious and useful modification.

Upon every strike, there is a small chance that the player can send their enemy flying backward and into the air for a combat homerun. When this happens, applause and cheering can also be heard, further gratifying this potent pummeling.

3 Paladin Danse May Be Suffering From PTSD

Fallout 4 Paladin Danse

Despite being a synth and not having the normal biological needs of a human, it can be learned that Danse is suffering from a lack of sleep and throbbing in his head. Reading this information from Knight-Captain Cade's terminal will give some insight into the matter as the text continues to imply that these symptoms can only be purely psychological. Synths in the game may not be flesh and blood, but from this, and other synth interactions, one could begin to see why they should be referred to as people.

2 Tunnel Snakes Rule!

This meme originated in Fallout 3 and has been spread by gamers across the internet for years. So much so that Bethesda could not help but add an Easter egg referencing this very line of dialogue. When traveling underground with the companion Robert MacCready, who also appeared in Fallout 3, he will sometimes randomly shout "Tunnel Snakes Rule!" and explain that he heard such a phrase a long time ago.

1 Diamond City's Allegiance

As the biggest and most populated city in the wastelands of Boston, Diamond City holds a lot for the player to see and do. Quests, special items, interesting characters, and more await the Sole Survivor in this booming business area. With so much going on it can be hard to spot subtle changes that happened due to the player's actions. After one completes the main questline, the flags around the city will change to that of the faction they allied with to conclude the story.
