Fallout 4 is easily the most anticipated game in the packed lineup of releases coming this holiday season. And with so much to do in the post-apocalyptic sequel, it’s likely players will be engrossed in the game’s story and action for many months to come.

Despite the fact that Fallout 4 will be a massive game, with plenty for players to do and explore, developer Bethesda is planning to release expansions for the game starting next year. In fact, for those players who are most excited for the DLC coming to Fallout 4, Bethesda will be offering a Season Pass that will grant players access to all of Fallout 4’s future DLCs for $30. But there’s a catch: Bethesda doesn’t yet know what the DLCswill look like.

In a post on Bethesda.net, the developer opened up about the studio’s plans for the game, including future free content and the Season Pass. However, the team at Bethesda revealed they don’t yet know what will be included in the DLC, though they did say players can expect at least $40 worth of content for their $30.

“We've always done a lot of DLC for our games. We love making them and you always ask us for more. To reward our most loyal fans, this time we’ll be offering a Season Pass that will get you all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do for just $30. Since we’re still hard at work on the game, we don’t know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year. Based on what we did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, we know that it will be worth at least $40, and if we do more, you'll get it all with the Season Pass.”

Most fans of the Fallout franchise would probably prefer Bethesda focus their efforts on providing a high-quality experience in Fallout 4 at launch, rather than letting the core game suffer in an effort to complete any expansions, but DLC is all but expected with any Bethesda release. That being said, it may be difficult for some players - especially those who are new to the Fallout series or who have been shafted in the past by Season Pass promises - to shell out the cash before they know what they’re getting.

Fortunately, Bethesda will be providing plenty for Fallout 4 players to do, even if they don’t purchase the Season Pass or any future DLC. The developer will be offering regular updates to the game that will not just fix bugs and issues, but will also deliver new content and features to the game, similar to the way they added legendary mode, kill cams, and visual enhancements to Skyrim for free.

Additionally, Bethesda is passionate about letting players sculpt their own experience in Fallout 4, and will be providing their Creation Kit early next year for players to develop their own mods, which will be playable on PC and Xbox One to start.

What do you think about Bethesda’s plans for Fallout 4? Will you purchase the Season Pass, even though the developer doesn’t know yet what will be included? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Fallout 4 is set to release on November 10, 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
