There are so many ways to expand the playtime of Fallout 4 thanks to the modding community, and a recent one adds hundreds of new lines of dialog to the game through AI to really improve the role-playing aspects of the 2015 release. While it's certainly a fantastic post-apocalyptic game, Obsidian Entertainment's New Vegas is the one that many consider to be the superior entry in the Fallout series. Of course, the fourth installment is still highly regarded, with mods still coming out for it.

Even though Fallout 5 has now been confirmed by Bethesda, it's going to be years until fans get a sniff of it. The studio is currently adding the finishing touches to its upcoming space-faring RPG Starfield, not to mention hopefully making progress on The Elder Scrolls 6, so gamers are sticking with the Fallout games that are currently available. That's not a bad thing, though. There are more than enough entries to choose from, including the franchise's original isometric releases, and there are many ways to enhance the vanilla experience.

A recent example comes from Nexus Mods user ProfMajkowski who recently brought the world "Roleplayer's Expanded Dialogue." This is a mod for Fallout 4 that adds to the game's dialog options. The description says there are currently over 300 additional lines for the player to choose from. The best thing about them is they are fully voiced. Using ElevenLabs AI, ProfMajkowski has been able to implement digital voice work for the new dialog, though they do say that in its current state, it may sound a little "emotionless." The mod also implements "Low Intelligence" options, which replaces vanilla lines if the protagonist has an INT skill of less than four. On top of that, there is a feature that allows players to imply that they are New Vegas' Courier or Fallout 3's Lone Wanderer.

There are already plenty of excellent Fallout 4 mods out there, and it's good to see more being released by the community all the time. There's even a hugely ambitious one coming up that takes the game to London, adding in a brand-new story and assets, and is appropriately titled "Fallout: London."

It's not just modders who are helping to keep the game alive, either. Fallout 4 is getting an Xbox Series and PS5 port at some point in 2023. There's no official release date as yet, but when it comes out, it will give those who haven't had a chance to finally dive into the game's derelict interpretation of Boston.

Fallout 4 is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A PS5 and Xbox Series X/S port is due in 2023.
