Bethesda officially announces that Fallout 4 in its entirety will be released for the HTC Vive virtual reality headset, along with a Doom virtual tour of hell.

Chances are by this point most gamers who enjoy action and RPG titles have played Fallout 4. However, at E3 2016 today, Bethesda announced a brand new reason why gamers should revisit the Boston wasteland: Virtual reality Fallout 4.

Announced during Bethesda's E3 2016 presentation, Bethesda revealed that they will be releasing two games for the HTC Vive. Doom will receive a virtual reality hellscape for gamers to explore, while Fallout 4 in its entirety will be released for the virtual reality headset. While some gamers have already rigged Fallout 4 to work with the Oculus Rift, this is the first time that the game has been officially released for a virtual reality headset.

According to Bethesda, Fallout 4 and the Doom hell tour will be available in virtual reality on the HTC Vive in 2017. However, attendees of E3 are truly the lucky ones, as virtual reality demos of the two titles will be offered on the show floor. Chances are this doesn't extend to the E3 Experience event down the street that's open to gamers, but once E3 2016 officially opens the show floor, more details and impressions will be posted here on Game ZXC.

Fallout 4 has often been criticized for its lack-luster appearance, though modders have been hard at work improving the look of the wasteland since the game's release. For now, there's no telling if these mods will be compatible with the HTC Vive version of Fallout 4, but simply seeing the base game in 3D may be enough for some players. Getting to replay the game in a virtual reality environment should be quite an experience, even though virtual reality equipment can still be quite expensive. Time will tell if the virtual reality version of Fallout 4 will eventually make its way to the PlayStation VR, which could be considerably more affordable for gamers.

For fans who haven't had enough of Fallout just yet, Bethesda also made an announcement that Fallout 4 will receive a new DLC that will allow players to build their own underground vaults. Fallout Shelter will also be getting an update, so gamers who are still in a Fallout frenzy will have plenty to keep themselves occupied with while they wait for the HTC Vive Fallout 4 release.
