Fallout 4 was built in a way to allow players some control over how the game ends. With competing factions at play, those replaying the game can experience missions they may never have experienced before by making different choices. Aside from a story that can be altered, Fallout 4 also has a long list of perks and skills players can adjust to create unique character builds.

One interesting and unique build that players can pursue in the game is the Idiot Savant. This build forces players to rely on Fallout 4’s Luck stat and Strength stat rather than other attributes and can lead to some rapid leveling up. For those Fallout 4 players looking to build an Idiot Savant character, this guide is here to help.

Starting An Idiot Savant Character

When players begin Fallout 4, they can add points to the following categories: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. These each impact a particular part of a player’s character and this early-game decision can have a dramatic impact on how players then have to play the game.

For those looking to start an Idiot Savant playthrough of the game, there are two categories they need to focus on: Intelligence and Luck. An Idiot Savant build begins with no additional points in Intelligence and heavy investment into Luck.

This underrated character build in Fallout 4 should be both incredibly strong and lucky but lacking in almost everything else. As such the common stat line for Idiot Savants starting out is: 10 Strength, 1 Perception, 1 Endurance, 3 Charisma, 1 Intelligence, 1 Agility, and 10 Luck. This results in a character who can quickly rack up critical hits and deal melee damage but do little else.

Benefits Of An Idiot Savant Character

After starting out, players then need to invest in the Idiot Savant perk. This perk requires 5 Luck to unlock and randomly multiplies XP by 3 for any action in the game. The chances that this perk activates are greater the lower a character’s intelligence, peaking at 11% at 1 Intelligence.

From this, the Idiot Savant perk can be improved at level 11 and for a final time at level 34. Rank 2 of Idiot Savant boosts that bonus to a multiplier of 5 while Rank 3 may trigger an additional XP bonus for all kills over the course of the next 60 seconds after the perk is activated.

As players have fewer points to put into other aspects of their character, combat may need to be focused on VATS usage and melee weapons. Fortunately, once players have leveled up and unlocked the other pieces of the perk, it should result in a character that can randomly deflect bullets, quickly load up VATS points, and rapidly level up. It is one of the best builds for those looking to earn experience quickly in Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
