A Fallout 4 player has noticed an adorable detail about the game's canine companion, Dogmeat. While some gamers prefer to mod Dogmeat in Fallout 4, this particular detail can be discovered in the base game.

The companions in Fallout 4 were one of the most-praised features of the game. Bethesda took a quality-over-quantity approach, which allowed the developer to delve deeper into the stories of each companion. This was the opposite of Skyrim's style, which allowed many of the NPCs in the game to accompany the player, but with much less depth. There are definitely pros and cons to both, however it's safe to say that Fallout 4's system was more favored by players in general and seems to have set the blueprint for Bethesda companions to come.

The cute detail was noticed by Redditor SleepyMikel, who posted the image of Dogmeat with a teddy bear. Apparently, if a player gives Dogmeat a teddy bear in Fallout 4, he'll hold it in his mouth in the most adorable way possible. Dogmeat was already one of the most popular companions in Fallout 4, and this recent discovery is something that many players will certainly have missed, even across multiple playthroughs of the game. Some gamers in the thread did notice the hilarious juxtaposition between Dogmeat being this adorable and him also being a vicious animal capable of tearing raiders apart.

It's interesting to see the more minute details of Fallout 4 still being uncovered to this day. Of course, there are surely some players who will have stumbled upon this years ago, but it's definitely not common knowledge among players of the game. Fallout 4 is simply so broad that not everyone can discover everything, even with multiple playthroughs. The player who discovered the helpful use of power armor with a targeting helmet in Fallout 4 is a perfect example of this. It's another niche find that only adds to how thoroughly detailed the game is even if only a sliver of players might actually discover it.

Gamers will be hoping Dogmeat will return in Fallout 5. The pup has appeared in every mainline Fallout title to date except for the online title Fallout 76, so it would be a major shock if he were to be excluded from the future release. The relationship between Dogmeat and the Sole Survivor was a key point of Fallout 4 marketing pre-release. While it's unknown if Bethesda will go that far again, the adorable companion is sure to play his part whenever Fallout 5 eventually releases.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2023.
