While playing the Far Harbor DLC in Fallout 4, players will encounter the quest "Best Left Forgotten," in which DiMA, the leader of Acadia, asks the player to find their memories stored on a terminal in the Childen of Atom's base.

In order to obtain these memories, players will have to complete at least three different puzzles (though there are five), which can be pretty buggy at times. Here's how those puzzles work and how players can use console commands to skip them.

Fallout 4: Best Play Order For The DLCs

Fallout 4 has four different DLCs. Here's the best play order for these DLCs and when they should be played during the game.

Updated by Erin Rice on June 1, 2024: This update added numbers to each step of the puzzles to help readers easily find information. It also added some clips to show exactly what to do.

How Do DiMA's Memory Puzzles Work?

In order to reach the area where DiMA's memories are, players will need to head into the Nucleus, which is where the Children of Atom are located on Far Harbor's island. To enter it, players will need to speak with the members outside the building and then complete their quest to join the group. Afterward, they can enter the building and head to the Nucleus Command Center, which is located right off the main base and allows players to access DiMA's Terminal.

Players may find that the memory puzzles are pretty confusing at the best of times. Players will be transported into a simulation where they will need to help Indexers (little green bugs) access data stored in large orange beams of light. They can place down Code Blocks (light blue blocks), which will allow the Indexers to crawl across them and reach the data. However, they may encounter Firewalls (red walls blocking the path), which will need to be destroyed by placing Decoder Relays (the other type of block) in front of the Decoder Beams (green beams) so that the Decoder Beam can shine through the Firewall and destroy it. The Firewalls can also be destroyed by Conduits, which can be unblocked and redirected to the Firewalls. There are also times when drones may appear and attack the Indexers, so the player will need to set down Defense Constructs to kill them. Here's a breakdown of each thing in the simulation and what it does:

  • Indexers (the green bugs) - transmit the data of DiMA's memories
  • Code Blocks (light blue blocks) - can be placed down in the simulation for the Indexers to crawl on
  • Firewalls (red walls that block the path) - are walls that stop the Indexers from reaching their destination
  • Decoder Relays (the darker blue blocks) - used to transmit Decoder Beams through the Firewall
  • Decoder Beams (the green beams of light) - used to destroy Firewalls
  • Defense Constructs (the mini sentries) - used to destroy enemy drones

Fallout 4: All Companion Perks (& How to Unlock Them)

Some companions in FO4 will allow players to have special Perks, even if they aren't with the player. Here are all their Perks and how to unlock them.

How To Complete DiMA Memory #1 Puzzle

  1. Pick up some of the Code Blocks around and make sure that the Indexers can reach the Firewall.
  2. Turn the Decoder Relay around to destroy the Firewall.
  3. Fill in any holes that the Indexers could fall through.
  4. Once they reach the data, place a few Defense Constructs down by the data.
  5. Go to the beginning and place the rest of the Defense Constructs down.

How To Complete DiMA Memory #2 Puzzle

  1. Jump down to the bottom level and move the Data Block so that the Decoder Beam can reach the Conduit.
  2. Redirect the Decoder Relay so that the Decoder Beam reaches the Firewall.
  3. Travel up to the top level and place down two Data Blocks and a Decoder Relay to push the Decoder Beam through the final Firewall.
  4. Go back to the level with the Indexers and fill in any holes in the path to the data.
  5. Once they reach the data, place a few Defense Constructs down by it and by the beginning.

How To Complete DiMA Memory #3 Puzzle

  1. Remove the Data Blocks blocking the Firewall and store them in the Workshop.
  2. Go up to the part above the first Firewall and obtain the Decoder Relay.
  3. Place the Decoder Relay on a stack of two Data Blocks on the first level so it can destroy the first Firewall.
  4. Then, pick up everything in this area and place it in the Workshop.
  5. Move the stack of Data Blocks and the Decoder Relay over two spaces so that it can hit the other Decoder Relay and push the Decoder Beam to the next Firewall.
  6. Cimb up to the top level and place another Data Code tower and Decoder Relay by the Decoder Beam to destroy the final Firewall.
  7. Go back down to the bottom level and fix any holes in the path to the data.
  8. Once the Indexers reach the data, place a few Defense Constructs by it and the beginning.

The final two puzzles are much harder and optional. They only tell players where a set of armor (which can be purchased or looted off specific NPCs) is located.

Console Commands To Skip DiMA's Memory Puzzles

Fallout 4 - Simulation Reaching End

Thankfully, if the player is tired of trying to complete the puzzles, they can easily enter console commands to skip the stages of the quest if they want. However, this is only available with the PC version of the game, meaning console players will have to do the puzzles.

  • DiMA Memory #1 - SetStage DLC03MQ04 150
  • DiMA Memory #2 - SetStage DLC03MQ04 250
  • DiMA Memory #3 - SetStage DLC03MQ04 350
  • DiMA Memory #4 - SetStage DLC03MQ04 450
  • DiMA Memory #5 - SetStage DLC03MQ04 550

After skipping the puzzle stages, make sure to listen to the Holotapes obtained from the stages by accessing the inventory and navigating to the misc section. This is how players will advance the quest after skipping those stages.
