Now into its fourth season of content, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has established itself as an indie darling with the momentum to keep going. While the game was first published by Devolver Digital, Epic Games purchased Fall Guys' developer Mediatonic last month, which will purportedly help bring in new content like cross-play. Fall Guys has also hosted a number of collaborations, and today its official Twitter account teased an upcoming crossover with another indie title: Shovel Knight.

In the past, Mediatonic's obstacle course-based battle royale has partnered with big and small properties alike to bring in different costumes for its bean-ish playable characters. Fall Guys has partnered with Toho's Godzilla and Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, for example, but it has also added skins based on other indies like Innersloth's Among Us.

Yacht Club Games was one of the first independent developers to bring smaller titles into the modern public consciousness thanks to its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that led to years of expansions and the developer opening its own publishing arm for games like Aarne Hunziker's Cyber Shadow. Shovel Knight has appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, For Honor, Yooka-Laylee, and more, so seeing Fall Guys tease his appearance with a video of a real-life bean character picking up the Shovel Blade makes a lot of sense.

The Fall Guys Twitter post doesn't provide details as to when this Shovel Knight collaboration will begin, or even what it entails, but based on precedent it will likely just add a new costume set that players can unlock using the Crowns they collect by winning games. Regardless of what the crossover includes and how long it lasts, fans of the retro 2D platformer should be excited to see Shovel Knight grace another game with his unique brand of shovel justice.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is available now on PC and PS4, with Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X ports coming in 2021.
