Mediatonic, the developers of Fall Guys, stated that it wanted the game to be like Rocket League by using PlayStation Plus to become an even bigger hit than it would have been otherwise. However, Fall Guys has turned out to be a little too popular, with serious server overload causing the game's servers to constantly be down for maintenance. The Fall Guys server issues have persisted since launch, and fans are now roasting the game online because of it.

This has included jokes about the impossible Fall Guys trophy being actually getting into five consecutive matches, as well as the "always has been" meme being used to reference the game's servers being down. The Fall Guys Twitter account seems to be taking the criticism in stride, even sharing some of the memes itself while apologizing for the server issues and connection errors that have kept fans from being able to play the game so far this weekend.

The latest report from the Fall Guys server owl Twitter account indicates that matchmaking is slowly being restored today. "We should have a greater capacity now for the weekend rush." Whether or not Fall Guys' server problems are behind it remains to be seen, however, and it's possible that fans will still be running into server issues throughout the weekend and beyond.

It seems that the Fall Guys connection errors and associated server issues are due to the large number of players who are trying to play the game, so on the bright side, at least it seems to be pretty popular. Fall Guys being a free PS Plus game for August 2020 has certainly helped, but positive word of mouth is likely playing a role as well. Fall Guys has earned mostly positive reviews from critics so far, with many praising it as a genuinely fun new take on the increasingly-crowded battle royale genre.

When Fall Guys gets its server issues sorted out, it's safe to say that it could very well be the next big multiplayer hit. And one strategy it may use to achieve that is crossover content with other franchises. There's already a Half-Life skin in the Steam version of the game, and interactions on social media suggest that Cyberpunk 2077 or Witcher content could be coming to Fall Guys at some point down the line, though nothing official has been announced at the time of this writing.

With Fall Guys proving popular on Twitch and with fans, here's hoping that the game is able to resolve its server issues sooner rather than later.

Fall Guys is out now for PC and PS4.
