Seven Deadly Sins was one of the biggest action fantasy anime in the world. The fans loved the quirky characters, the dark fantasy vibes of the story, the brutal fights between different races and species, and the bizarre and over-the-top powers of the heroes and the villains.

After five seasons and a couple of movies, Seven Deadly Sins eventually finished telling the stories of Meliodas and his ragtag band of sins. Or at least that was the case until Nakaba Suzuki, the author of the Seven Deadly Sins manga, created a sequel less than a year after the end of the main series. It’s called the Four Knights of the Apocalypse, and its anime adaptation will be a part of the Fall 2023 anime season. So here’s everything that you need to know about the upcoming first season of Four Knights of the Apocalypse.

The Story of Four Knights of the Apocalypse

Four Knights of the Apocalypse Percival

Thanks to the events that happened at the end of Seven Deadly Sins, the world can enjoy a long period of peace. That being said, one of the saviors of the world at the time has turned into an evil overlord who threatens the peaceful life of everybody around the world. His name is Arthur, the king of the Kingdom of Camelot. Arthur envisions a world free of tragedy and sadness, and he is willing to do anything to achieve that dream, even if it means massacring countless innocent people.

Unfortunately for him, a prophecy tells him that his noble vision will be destroyed by a group of people called the four Knights of the Apocalypse. So Arthur sends his most trusted, powerful, and loyal servant, the Knight of Chaos, to hunt down the four knights of the apocalypse and everybody who has anything to do with them.

One of those terrifying knights is a playful boy named Percival. He lives his life in peace until one of Arthur’s Knights of Chaos comes and kills his grandfather. That is when he learns about his identity as one of the four Knights who was prophesied to bring about the apocalypse.

In order to survive and prevent Arthur from destroying the world, Percival has to find the other knights of the apocalypse. That means going on a journey across the world where he visits all kinds of strange places and meets all kinds of people from different races and species.

From Seven Deadly Sins to Four Knights of The Apocalypse

Seven Deadly Sins

The story of Four Knights of the Apocalypse takes place in the same world as the Seven Deadly Sins. Not only that, it actually happens about fifteen years after the end of the main series. As such, some of the characters from the original series would inevitably appear in this series, such as Meliodas and other people from the Kingdom of Liones, although they won’t have an active role in the story.

There’s no official announcement yet about the exact length of the Four Knights of The Apocalypse anime adaptation. However, the showrunners did mention the fact that this new series will run for two cours, with no gap in between. That means we can expect this sequel to have at least the same amount of episodes as the first season of Seven Deadly Sins, which is 24 episodes.

The Seven Deadly Sins adapted the first 100 chapters of the manga into 24 episodes of the anime. At the time of writing, the original Four Knights of The Apocalypse manga already has 103 chapters worth of content. That means the Four Knights of The Apocalypse has more than enough content to cover the same amount of episodes.

New Characters With Some Familiar Faces

Four Knights of the Apocalypse Characters

Unlike most anime sequels, Four Knights of The Apocalypse will feature countless new characters. As for the old characters from the original series, they are merely cameos who will appear in different stages of Percival’s journey.

Some of the most notable new characters are certainly the four knights of the apocalypse and their companions. Percival is the Knight of Death, Lancelot is the Knight of War, Tristan is the Knight of Pestilence, and Gawain is the Knight of Famine. By the way, Lancelot is the son of Ban and Elaine while Tristan is the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth.

Other than Lancelot and Gawain, each knight has their own companions who travel together with them. Percival is traveling together with the lecherous Danny, the quiet Nasiens, and the stubborn Anghalhad. Tristan is accompanied by the overly cautious Isolde, the cunning and rude Chion, and the optimistic and straightforward Jade. Needless to say, every single one of them is blessed with unique powers.
