Fairy Tail tells a fantastic story of a great wizard guild in a world filled with powerful characters. The powers possessed by characters in this anime are diverse, with some being relatively useless and others being extremely powerful.
Surprising enough, there are characters who are much weaker than others, yet their powers have the potential to be some of the most powerful in the series. Their magic is so overpowered, but sadly their only limiting factors are the magic amount of the characters in question, and their lack of training.
8 Velveno Can Copy Magic When He Touches Someone
Velveno's magic power might seem pathetic when Velveno himself uses it, but in fact this is the same power wielded by August, the Wizard King. This power allows Velveno to copy the powers of any wizard he comes in contact with. He can even copy Dragon Slayer Magic, which should've been impossible.
Regardless of his incredible magic, Velveno is a very weak character who would have received a thorough beating if any of the people he fought got a little serious. As seen with August, this power is formidable if used to its full potential.
7 Dan's Powers Are Surprisingly Strong
Dan is a very skilled fighter, but what makes him really difficult to fight is his tricky magic. He is clothed in full body armor, and he wields a spear and a shield. His shield can reflect an opponents magic power back at them, so it's practically offense and defense in one.
His spear shoots out a beam to alter the size of matter, a power wielded by Brandish, one of the most powerful characters in the series. Dan himself isn't very powerful, but he knows how to use his magic with skill and precision. That's what makes him hard to fight.
6 Yuka Can Negate The Magic Of His Opponents
It's quite ironic that the magic of some weak characters are wielded by other really powerful ones. Yuka, for instance, has the power to render a wizard powerless, similar to Byro's power, yet Yuka is nowhere near Byro's level.
The ability to nullify magic, in a world where magic is most important should be second to none. Yuka however, struggles to make himself useful despite his incredible magic. With a lot of training, Yuka could become a much more formidable fighter like Byro.
5 Levy Can Create Almost Anything
Levy's magic is among the most versatile in the series. It's called solid script magic, and it allows her to create anything by simply writing in the air. With this power, Levy can create all sorts of things to help her opponents in combat or fight for herself.
Being limited only by her own imagination, means that she should be almost invincible. Unfortunately, Levy is more brains than brawn, so this power never reached its full potential despite how impressive it is. Had she harnessed this power to the fullest, Levy would have been a far more formidable wizard.
4 Hughes Can Control Things With His Wand
Being able to control stuff with a stick is a power many people have craved since childhood. Hughes has the power, and with it he proved to be a pain in the behind for Natsu, Lucy and Gray. The downside to this cool power, however, is the fact that Huges is only powerful as long as he's in an amusement park.
Here, he can control every thing to do as he sees fit. Outside this environment, Hughes is a pushover. If he could use the power wherever he wished, there's no doubt that there will be but a few who can stand against him.
3 Lucy Summons Powerful Spirits To Fight For Her
Lucy is an incredible Celestial Wizard, capable of summoning powerful spirits to fight on her behalf. At the beginning of the show, she was more of a hindrance during battles than she was useful. With time, she got stronger and could summon more than one spirit at a time, and her spirits got more powerful too.
With this in mind, one can't help but wonder how powerful she could have been if she wielded as much magic power as Gray or Natsu. If that were the case, Lucy would have been one of the most powerful wizards alive.
2 Cana's Cards Allow Her To Use Several Magic Types
Typically, in anime, the characters the most powerful characters are capable of wielding several types of powers. Cana is one of these such characters, but sadly, she's far from being the strongest character in Fairy Tail, despite her ability to use one of the three grand Fairy Tail spells.
Her card magic is very versatile, allowing her to use multiple types of magic powers, some of which belong to the most powerful characters in the series, like fire magic, lightning magic, water magic, etc. With some serious training, Cana has the potential to be overpowered like some of her fellow wizards in the Fairy Tail guild.
1 Rufus Can Create Spells With His Memories
Rufus possesses one of the most incredible magic powers in the series, being able to create or modify existing spells with his memories. His imagination is his greatest weapon, as he can create all sorts of spells that each serve different purposes. He can even alter ancient spells to suit his own desires, thereby creating new forms of ancient magic.
It's almost as if his magic is endless. He can still be taken down rather easily if his opponent releases more magic than his mind can keep up with. In a confused state, Rufus is practically powerless.
