In Fae Farm, the land of Azoria is wild and full of wonder. Players can farm, fish, and cook to their heart's content - and it's even more fun with a friend or three. Like other games in the cozy genre, players may have a hard time getting their heads around the game's fishing mini-game; this guide will help explain its nuances so players can start showing off their aquatic collection in no time.

While most games' fishing mechanics are content to be heavily inspired by Stardew Valley's, Fae Farm takes some unique steps that set it apart from the competition. First is the lack of mystery - fish can be seen in all of their glory if they're present in a water source. This comes with the drawback of jumping into the water scaring them off, but that's true-to-life if nothing else

How To Catch Fish In Fae Farm

Fae Farm fishing minigame going poorly

To catch fish in Fae Farm, players must be strategic. The steps to hook a fish are as follows:

  1. Equip the fishing rod. One is unlocked as part of the game's tutorial.
  2. Approach a river, lake, or shoreline that has some fish nearby with the rod in-hand.
  3. Move the cursor to a desired spot to reveal a blue arrow. Aim near a fish's face to make sure they notice the bobber.
  4. Click and hold to build power. Maximum power will put the bobber at the tip of the blue arrow.
  5. When the fish is facing the bobber, left-click to 'jiggle' it. The fish will 'lock on' to stare at the bobber when interested.
  6. Jiggle the bobber one or two more times until the fish takes the bait and bites.

With a fish on the line, players shouldn't panic. Securing a catch isn't as hard as it may seem. Note that the fishing line turning red meansit will break soon, so players should stop reeling in when the line isn't white.

  1. When the fish is actively trying to swim away, quickly click and let go to slow it down. Be careful, because if it swims too far away, players may be dragged into the water!
  2. When the fish is facing the player, hold left click to reel it in.
  3. Repeat this process until the fish has been caught.

Upon catching the fish, players are free to cook them, sell them, or place them in storage. Some quests require players to catch and sell specific types of fish, so keeping at least one of each type in a storage shed is recommended. With each fish caught, fishing XP increases to unlock all kinds of awesome bonuses later down the line.

Fae Farm is available now on PC and Nintendo Switch.
