One of the more enjoyable mechanics in Fae Farm is its critter catching. It's simple, easy to enjoy, and has a lot of variety with the way each critter reacts to players trying to scoop them up. Once collected, players are free to do what they want with the critter - sell it for some Florins, put it in a Conservatory for some additional resources, or just keep it to one side in case a potential partner likes it.

To catch the more elusive critters, players will need to upgrade their net - and that's only possible once their critter catching experience has reached a certain level. This guide will help players boost their level quickly, allowing them to expand their critter collection even further.

How To Increase Critter Catching Level Quickly in Fae Farm

After meeting the town's beekeeper Mel during the game's tutorial, players are set loose on Azoria's many critters to catch as many as they please. For an early boost to their XP potential, players should look into an inventory expansion to hold more critters of different types, and take special care when approaching 'glowing' or unusually colored critters as they give lots more XP than their standard counterparts.

In the early game, general advice is just to catch every critter that players encounter. They're usually worth between 10 and 25 XP, with rarer variants helping increase their experience faster. Once players reach critter catching level three, however, they unlock a sturdy net that opens some exciting new possibilities - assuming they also have 1,000 florins to afford it. This sturdy net immediately proves useful after players reach Chapter 4 in the story, as the Fae realm's critters aren't much harder to catch but give plenty more XP.

To catch critters in the Fae realm, players should be prepared to either sneak up on them from behind or swing wildly. Both will likely end up being used, as the perfect time to catch the Fae Shadow and Sun Sprite critters - both worth 40 xp - is when they reappear after a brief period of invisibility. Frequently patrolling the large area and sleeping when it's empty will help players quickly rack up plenty of XP - but progressing the story further is still recommended, as critters in the Mountain area give even more XP than those in the Fae realm. Mountain critters will require players to purchase the Advanced Critter Net, however, which requires 2,500 Florins and critter catching level five.

Sadly, the critter conservatory that players can catch and fill with their captures doesn't give any critter catching XP. The resources it gives are useful in many ways, but won't boost players' XP no matter how many are crafted.

The perks mentioned are explained further in the game's almanac within the 'Skill Perks' section. They make critter catching much more effective and save some time that would otherwise be spent hauling critters over to a conservatory, rewarding players for consistently putting their nets to work.

  • Catching Efficiency gives a 20% chance to restore energy after catching a critter.
  • Lucky Catch gives a chance to receive a bonus item when catching a critter.
    • This is usually the item they'd leave behind in a critter conservatory.

Fae Farm is available now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
