Facebook recently had an extensive presentation that outlined the future of the company, including the renaming of Facebook to Meta. The presentation also highlighted updates and plans for the popular Oculus consoles, such as the acquisition of Within, the developers behind Supernatural, a subscription-based VR fitness game.

Oculus has been a popular pick for many fans of VR, and with an exciting brand-new VR console coming out next year, the company will only grow. Although highly popular due to its library of VR games, Oculus (and VR in general) has been seeing more fitness-related content as of late. These fitness apps add a level of entertainment to regular exercise to help encourage players.

Meta has now acquired Supernatural developers Within to build more fitness programs for Oculus. Supernatural has a large selection of great soundtracks that players can listen to while performing cardio Beat Saber-like exercises. These exercises aren’t just taking place in a boring location, either, as players can choose a variety of different settings to perform their exercises. Supernatural also recently introduced boxing exercises that see players dodging a variety of incoming projectiles, while also being taught how to jab, hook, and so on.

By working with Meta, Within developers will have a lot more support for upcoming fitness programs that they want to create. Ideas that they might have had before that they couldn’t do, they can now do so. Since Supernatural is subscription-based, it’s possible its next fitness VR title isn’t, as Within wouldn’t want its new game to overlap with the already successful Supernatural.

With the addition of Within, and the various other titles coming to Oculus such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Oculus is looking to cement itself as the go-to VR console. Oculus Quest 2 also just recently released the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 4 VR that reinvigorates the 16-year-old game. Oculus isn’t just going for top-tier gaming franchises, either. VR lends itself to a variety of other uses, and fitness is a highly lucrative business.

Although Oculus has been fairing rather well, it isn’t the only VR headset on the market. PlayStation also plans to release a new VR headset presumably for PlayStation 5. Details on the new PlayStation VR headset have recently come to light, but the price and release date of Sony’s follow-up VR platform is not yet known. Still, with PlayStation as popular and large as it is, those interested in VR have plenty of options.
