UPDATE 3/5: Facebook appears to be back up and running again, though some users are still reporting issues getting onto the site and other Meta platforms, like Meta Quest and Instagram. Access should improve throughout the day, though it's still unclear exactly what caused the outage.

Original story follows.

The hugely popular social media site Facebook is down right now, with nearly a quarter million users reporting as much. Facebook, owned by Meta, is one of the most popular social media websites in the world, alongside TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram, the latter of which is owned by the same company. Like all online services and websites, there are times when Facebook goes down, making it impossible to access it.

Luckily, it's extremely rare that the Meta-owned Facebook goes down for any significant period of time. Most Facebook technical mishaps are user-specific and not very widespread. Unfortunately, there are rare occasions when Facebook goes down for everyone, or at least, a large portion of the userbase. That is exactly what seems to be happening right now on March 5, as Facebook is currently down.

Facebook is down right now, with no official word yet on what the problem is or when it will get fixed. Facebook has not updated its accounts on other social media platforms to acknowledge the issue or reveal when services may be restored. In the meantime, over 200,000 people have taken to Down Detector to report that Facebook is currently not working for them.

Facebook is down as of the morning of March 5, and it's unclear when it will start working again. Even if services are restored, it's possible parent company Meta won't reveal exactly why Facebook stopped working. We will update this article as soon as Facebook services are restored.
