On June 27, Xbox fans discovered official Twitter accounts for dormant Microsoft IPs Fable and Perfect Dark, fueling speculation that new games in the franchises would be announced soon. However, Xbox's Aaron Greenberg has commented on the matter, confirming that these accounts were made years ago for the sole purpose of securing social media handles for the company's IP, meaning they don't necessarily indicate announcements coming any time soon.

Despite Greenberg's denial, though, fans may still very well be getting news on Fable and Perfect Dark sooner rather than later. Reputable industry insiders and leakers have indicated that a new Perfect Dark game is in development, with some claims that it will switch the franchise to a third-person view. While that may or may not be true, the Fable 4 leaks have been plentiful enough that it's more or less an open secret at this point.

For the uninitiated, Playground Games is rumored to be working on Fable 4, which is something that Head of Xbox Phil Spencer even hinted at during Microsoft's E3 2018 presentation. While Playground Games is mostly known for its work on the Forza Horizon franchise, there's no reason why it can't branch out into other Microsoft IP, especially since the studio is now owned by Xbox Game Studios.

If Perfect Dark and Fable 4 are in development for Xbox Series X, then one has to imagine that the reveals would come at the Xbox Series X event in July. While a specific date hasn't been announced, Microsoft has confirmed that it will be hosting a special Xbox 20/20 presentation in July that focuses mainly on first-party Xbox Series X games. So far, the only game confirmed for the event is Halo Infinite, meaning the rest of the lineup is still a mystery at the time of this writing.

Microsoft has plenty of IP it could leverage for the Xbox Series X, and there's also the possibility that it has some original IP in the works as well. In fact, The Initiative studio is said to be working on a massive game for Xbox, so maybe that it will be revealed at the Xbox event in July.

If Perfect Dark and Fable 4 are shown in July as rumored, then fans can expect these inactive Twitter accounts to start posting content soon.
