With The Tokyo Game Show 2020 just around the corner, game fans of all genres are hyped to see what new looks and world premieres are in store for the games showcase. SEGA and Atlus, two esteemed Japanese developers, have released a lineup of what fans will see at the event.

Atlus, known for its JRPG series Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, is among the many game developers attending this event and their lineup shows a hint at what we might be seeing. Although the only officially announced title is Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster, there likely more to see in the pipeline.

What's Confirmed - Shin Megami Tensei 3 Gameplay

Shin Megami Tensei 3

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne was initially released on the PlayStation 2 in 2003 to high acclaim from critics and fans alike, and now the classic JRPG is making its way to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Spring of 2021. Only a brief announcement trailer has been shown thus far, so getting an in-depth look will make this long awaited remaster all the more enticing for new and old fans. Atlus has confirmed that there will be gameplay of SMT3 there, and this likely means fans will get a ton of answers considering how the title has been improved. It's also worth mentioning that this isn't the only title Atlus has coming next year: the next entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei 5, is also set for release in 2021. As such, while it's not impossible it will be there, but chances are, Atlus is keeping that one a little closer to its chest for now.

What else? Persona 5 Scramble or Persona 6?

While Shin Megami Tensei 3's remaster is sure to garner hype and excitement, fans are also patiently waiting for any news surrounding Atlus' other popular series, Persona. It's not on its confirmed list, so fans should keep expectations in check. However, that doesn't mean it won't be there. In fact, if it were to comment on Persona 5 Scramble or even a potential Persona 6 reveal, Atlus would likely be keeping this a secret.

Persona offers a lighter, more stylized vibe with similar combat systems and added social simulation compared to SMT. Persona began as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei but has since solidified itself as its own series, including many spin-offs as well including fighting and rhythm based games. To shake things up, having either Persona 5 Scramble or Persona 6 (although the latter option is by far the least likely), there would do a lot to encourage fans who may be more distraught.

While Persona 5: Scramble has already released in Japan, Western fans patiently await their turn to fight the devious Shadows with their summoned Personas, and TGS is the perfect venue to announce a Western release of this legendary mash-up. Nothing is yet confirmed, but it certainly would be no surprise to see this title when the TGS online event begins.

However, it is also possible that due to the coronavirus pandemic, development on a Western release of Persona 5: Scramble has slowed down, as well as any other projects, and Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster might be the only title Atlus has to show off. Fans will just have to wait and see.

TGS 2020 begins today and will run until September 27th.
