Highlights

  • Roadblock is a powerful tank Exosuit in Exoprimal with a gargantuan shield and strong brawling abilities, similar to Reinhardt from Overwatch 2.
  • Players can customize Roadblock's abilities by equipping modules, but some modules like Skid Step are not very useful, while others like Knuckle Duster promote a more offensive playstyle.
  • The Skid Dodge+ module is an upgrade that improves Roadblock's mobility and stun abilities, making it a solid choice for tank players. The Tower Shield module increases Roadblock's shield durability, while the Legendary Taunt module enhances his ability to draw aggro and protect teammates.

As the first tank Exosuit most players will get hands-on experience with in Exoprimal, Roadblock is a great choice for fortifying a team's defenses. The utility of his gargantuan shield is rivaled only by his brawling power. Roadblock is functionally very similar to Reinhardt, Overwatch 2's resident knight. The path to victory is paved by balancing damage mitigation with all-out offensives.

One of the major differences that helps Exoprimal stand out from other hero shooters, however, is the potential to change the loadouts of different Exosuits with modules that alter the abilities in their base kit. Roadblock has some of the strongest abilities in the game considering his shield, his bash, his taunt, and his mobile skid. These are the best modules to equip on Roadblock in Exoprimal.

6 Skid Step

Roadblock uses Skid Dodge ability to evade a bite from an attacking T. Rex dinosaur.

The Skid Step module is one of the most mediocre module offerings in Exoprimal. Roadblock's movement ability, Skid Dodge, is not very good to start with. It doesn't take him very far, it has a slow startup, and there are crucial seconds on the tail end of the ability usage before players can gain control of the Exosuit again. The Skid Step module doesn't augment this ability in a very meaningful way.

Instead, this module adds two additional charges to Skid Dodge, allowing players to use the ability up to three times in a row. It also increases the distance that Roadblock traverses when activating this ability, but any utility is immediately undercut by the fact that the ability's cooldown time increases when this module is equipped, as well. This is the worst module for Roadblock players.

5 Knuckle Duster

Roadblock Exosuit uses Haymaker punch to assault raptor horde in front of him.

The Knuckle Duster module promotes a more offensive Roadblock playstyle, which is fairly unique among the Roadblock module offerings. Many of Roadblock's modules cater to a more defense-oriented playstyle, bolstering his shield or giving him greater stunning capabilities. Knuckle Duster instead rewards the type of player who knows when to drop the shield and initiate the fight.

While Roadblock is on the attack throwing out punches with his signature Haymaker weapon, the Knuckle Duster module bolsters the Exosuit's defense value, decreasing all incoming damage. This allows Roadblock to soak up more punishment. He still serves as a tank, but he'll be doing some damage to his opponents, too. This module is fun for tanks that want to get in the thick of the fight alongside the melee-focused damage Exosuits, but it isn't the most effective loadout option in the game.

4 Skid Dodge+

Roadblock uses Skid Dodge ability backwards in the training range, standing in front of a handful of training bots.

The Skid Dodge+ module is a straight upgrade over the Skid Step module. This module recognizes that the base Skid Dodge isn't super useful as a mobility ability, and instead augments the ability to play into Roadblock's tank role. With Skid Dodge+ equipped, players can use Skid Dodge to stun dinosaurs and enemy Exosuits, giving teammates precious seconds to gun down defenseless enemies.

Though Roadblock's Ballistic Wall already offers a stun through the Shield Blast ability, this module offers a new way for players to keep up the pressure when cycling cooldowns. Skid Dodge+ promotes a healthy balance between Roadblock's offensive and defensive styles of play, making it a solid module choice for enterprising tank players.

3 Stun Blast

Roadblock Exosuit powers up back jets in order to crash into raptor horde with his Ballistic Wall shield.

The Stun Blast module augments Roadblock's Shield Blast ability. The Shield Bash is already extremely effective, creating space for Roadblock's teammates while simultaneously dealing massive damage on multi-dinosaur impacts. With the Stun Blast module equipped, though, the Shield Blast gets even more powerful - the chance to stun dinosaurs for longer periods of time greatly increases, and the ability's stun effect is now also applied to enemy Exosuits that get hit by this attack.

Even the downside of this module can be a boon in disguise. The Stun Blast module makes the Shield Bash ability do less knockback on enemy dinosaurs. This creates less space for Roadblock's team, but it also means that they'll be stunned directly within punching distance as soon as Roadblock lowers his shield. Once again, this is a great module choice for Roadblock players who want to shield their teammates from enemy forces while also putting a dent in their numbers at the same time.

2 Tower Shield

Roadblock holds up his Ballistic Wall shield at 98% durability, prepared to tank attacks against an oncoming raptor horde.

One of the best modules for players who take the tank role seriously, the Tower Shield module ensures that players will be mitigating the maximum amount of damage incoming to their team. Each level of the Tower Shield increases the durability of Roadblock's Ballistic Wall - at level one, Tower Shield increases the durability by 400 hit points. By Tower Shield level five, the Ballistic Wall will have a whopping 1000 additional hitpoints.

This is a massive boon in tough fights, especially against large dinosaurs and enemy exosuits. When certain hits are able to deal 15-20% of the damage required to break down Roadblock's shield, augmenting it to take even more punishment is never a bad idea.

1 Legendary Taunt

Roadblock's fist glows as he smashes his shield, taunting enemy raptors into focusing their attacks on him.

The Legendary Taunt module provides perfect synergy to two of Roadblock's most important abilities. Roadblock's Taunt is meant to draw aggro off of his teammates, which means he'll be taking a lot of damage shortly after using it. It's crucial to have the Ballistic Wall ready to absorb some of that incoming damage - and that's where the Legendary Taunt module really shines.

This module restores shield integrity to the Ballistic Wall for as long as Roadblock continues his Taunt - this allows Roadblock to draw the aggro away from his teammates, amass a horde of enemies, and then pull the fully recharged shield up when things get out of hand. This module is one of the best modules in the game for players who want to draw fire away from their damage dealers and healers, allowing them to rip the dinos to shreds.

Exoprimal is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
