In 2014, The Evil Within game was a hit amongst horror-game fans. Luckily for them, not long after, in 2017, The Evil Within 2 sequel was introduced to the public. Detective Castellanos (now retired), is looking for his daughter in yet another nightmarish experience.

While the game doesn't reinvent the survival-horror game genre, fans are loving the outcome, and it became a hit once again. The biggest thrill in the game apart from the boss fights will be the lack of ammo, but players will get used to most of the basic monsters. Having said that, there are a few types of monsters that aren't bosses, that will send chills down players' backs.

12 The Lost

The Evil Within 2 The Lost Creatures

The Lost are the most common monster that players will encounter in The Evil Within 2. Their overall intelligence during combat varies depending on the situation, but they're easy to kill.

They do have screaming and thrashing tendencies even when not provoked, which may confuse the players at first glance. Their health is very low, so they're easy to beat if necessary. Players will quickly get used to these monsters, and after a while killing them will become a reflex.

11 Albedo

The Evil Within 2 Albedo Creatures

Also a common enemy in the game, the Albedo are found only in Limbo, and they were created with the sole purpose of keeping Detective Castellanos from finding his daughter Lilly. They use their hands and teeth when in combat, but are easy to kill.

They do look quite disturbing, but these monsters are very common and players won't hesitate for a second when encountering one after some practice. They have the tendency to stay motionless like a statue when unoccupied, so players will often not see them coming if they're not aware.

10 Glutton

The Evil Within 2 Glutton Creature

This monster has a very disturbing and grotesque look, with boils and rashes all over, and their bodies look like they're about to burst. That is because they do in fact blow up. Because of this, they should be taken down by a sneak attack, to get it over with before they blow up.

If, however, a Glutton sees Sebastian, it will relentlessly try to kill him, and will not give up. They will begin to swell as they get closer to the detective, trying to blow him up. So whenever a player sees one of these roaming around, it's best to take them down as soon as possible.

9 Hysteric

The Evil Within 2 Hysteric Creature

Hysterics are the most dangerous variants of The Lost. Their skin is very pale, grey even, and they have long, sharp nails they use during combat, and they also always carry a knife. Their health is a bit higher than other very common monsters, but they're generally easy to kill.

They are, however very persistent, following the players during combat. And they can be very fast when they run. Taking them down is best done by using stealth because if they catch up to the player, they can easily kill them even on full health.

8 Lament

The Evil Within 2 Lament Creature

The Lament looks like it was formed from at least two female bodies. When players see one, there ought to be more out of sight, so they must be careful. Laments will try to catch the player, and because they have a lot of arms to do that with, they're successful most of the time.

If the detective gets too close to one, it will lift him up, restaining his arms, and proceed to vomit acid into the detective's face, killing him instantly. These monsters are hard to master, but with practice, players can instantly kill them by aiming at their heads.

7 Disciple

The Evil Within 2 Disciple Creature

The Disciples are Theodore Wallace's personal servants. Their large, brutal creatures with huge muscles, and an endlessly burning body. Their faces are so deformed, that some even lack any skin, their skulls showing through.

Their main weapon is fire, and their weak point is their head. After the first encounter in chapter nine, they become very common in the game. These creatures can be taken down using stealth, but only when they're not ignited. If they are, any attack can go downhill fast.

6 Spawn

The Evil Within 2 Spawn Creature

A Spawn is an incredibly frightening sight, seemingly formed by quite a lot of human bodies and maybe some not-human parts as well. Unfortunately, their weak point is their tiny head, which lies behind a jungle of razor-sharp teeth of all shapes and sizes. It has a main head, and two others so it never gets lonely.

Also, it has a fourth head at its rear end, which is there just to make the life of the player that much harder. Sneaking up on them is nearly impossible. When they see someone, they'll immediately scurry towards them like a vicious arachnid. If used well, a hand axe can be the perfect weapon against these monsters, killing them with one hit, but a shotgun will do the trick as well.

5 Harbinger

The Evil Within 2 Harbinger Creature

The Harbinger's weapon of choice is a flamethrower, and they use it in extremely disturbing ways. Their demeanor is very much like a hunter's, so sneaking up on them is hard. Using a Smoke Bolt to distract them should be the perfect opportunity for a stealth attack, and 2 to 5 hits will bring them down (depending on the game mode).

If a player doesn't have a Smoke Bolt, they should look out for when the Harbinger sprays and then go in. Blowing up the fuel tank is a gamble because even if it's successful, it won't kill the Harbinger, instead, it will make it more aggressive, and could instantly kill the detective with its melee attack.

4 Aperture

The Evil Within 2 Aperture Creature

Aperture is a massive creature, and somewhat a sub-boss in the game. It's mainly a representation of the main character's missing eye, and of opening one's eyes to new ideas. It's an unkillable creature, and when attacking with its tentacles, it can kill the character instantly.

Although it is technically unbeatable, it's not the first on the list, because it's not a common monster, and it doesn't usually attack the protagonist directly. It mostly drives its tentacles into the ground before the players, summoning more common monsters. It's not a boss that players need to defeat, it's more of a creature that intervenes when it shouldn't.

3 Sadist

The Evil Within 2 Sadist Monster

During the last boss fight, Theodore summons three bosses from the previous game. Because in The Evil Within 2, these are not the main bosses, they are included in this list as the strongest of all monsters. One of the summoned creatures is The Sadist. He has a chainsaw, a meat cleaver, and a rocket launcher to attack with, which seems like quite the over-kill.

Despite his large size, he's very agile, but he can be stunned by shooting him in the face with a high-powered weapon, giving the detective a brief advantage. Attempting to hide is not an option, as the Sadist will jam his chainsaw through literally anything to get to Sebastian, killing him instantly.

2 Laura

The Evil Within 2 Laura Monster and Laura Human Portrait

Another one of the summoned creatures is Laura in her creature form. She's immune to bullets, doesn't even acknowledge them, but is very aggressive towards open-flame. She's a reincarnation of all things negative that the protagonist associates with Laura.  The aggression towards the flames because of the barn-house fire, her constant screaming as a creature, etcetera.

She is able to teleport in short distances, and can also spawn into any corpse close to the player, so burning any of those can hurt her. Trying to take her down with conventional weapons is a massive waste of resources. Constantly moving, burning, and using explosives is the safest bet.

1 The Keeper

The Evil Within 2 The Keeper Monster

The Keeper is the third boss from the first game brought back in the sequel. The Keeper has a lot of weapons and is not afraid to use them in all sorts of imaginative ways. This monster symbolizes Sebastian's past, his rage, and his safe where he kept his research.

A surefire way to defeat this monster is with the Warden Crossbow. This weapon can stun or damage it efficiently enough. Also, fully upgraded Harpoon Bolts can kill it with about 3 shots, if those are executed perfectly. Or if neither are these are to the player's liking, a sawed-off or full-barreled shotgun will also work.
