The upcoming fourth installment in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise, was teased by the movie's director, Lee Cronin, via a behind-the-scenes image to announce the film's first day of shooting. It was also revealed a little while back that Evil Dead 4 will be coming to HBO Max.

Evil Dead Rise has been in the works and was talked about for close to 10 years. The recent 2013 remake of the original film is what sparked it off and got the conversation going. This new film will follow two estranged sisters as they meet up and reconnect only to be interrupted by the Deadites, which are parasitic demons that can possess things.

This news comes months off the heels of the recent Evil Dead video game announcement, which was shown at the Video Game Awards. Many are hoping this game adds to the competition of horror games since there's currently a lack of heavy-hitting contenders. Evil Within only has two solid sequels with no official announcement of any more titles. Outlast, the first-person found footage survival horror game, is getting a third title with co-op but it hasn't hit the widespread as of yet. Silent Hill is nowhere to be found, Dead Space might actually be dead, and Amnesia received a sequel last year that isn't talked about as much. Meanwhile, Resident Evil is here taking all the leftovers and thriving at that.

Competition usually brings out the best in creators, so to have a new Evil Dead horror game enter the ring would only mean we would get more solid titles. Although in Resident Evil's defense, it really doesn't need the boost since the franchise's recent releases have been great and it has both an animated as well as a live-action film on the way.

In the event that this Evil Dead game takes off at the same time the new movie does, we make revitalization of this universe. It may attract new fans as well as bring in the old hardcore veterans who've been here since day 1. Only time will tell but one thing is for sure, it's that Evil Dead has selling power since the main character Ash has long been teased and requested as a Mortal Kombat fighter.

If this doesn't go well, then this very well may be the last time we see Evil Dead for a while. Sometimes it's better to let things rest and not add a sequel unless it truly brings something new as well as worth telling.

Evil Dead Rise is currently filming.
