Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of Rockstar's most anticipated games. Fans of the franchise have been tracking potential leaks for years, though many rumors like the one that stated the game would be announced during the Super Bowl, have ultimately proven false.

With so many leaks coming out about Grand Theft Auto 6 it can be hard to keep track of them. Here's every GTA 6 rumor and leak to come out in 2021 so far, and why some may be more reliable than others.

The GTA Leaks of 2021

One of the earliest leaks of the year came from YouTuber Tom Henderson — AKA LongSensation — known for correctly leaking information about Call of Duty in the past. The YouTuber claimed on Twitter that "for the first time ever in a GTA title, GTA 6 will have a playable female and male protagonist." So far, this leak remains unconfirmed, but it was corroborated by another leaker, YouTuber LegacyKillerHD.

Another leak landed on Reddit in early February. This allegedly massive leak claimed that the game would use a chapter system similar to the one found in Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the leak, the game's first two chapters will take place in the 1970s, and while Rockstar had supposedly considered a female protagonist for a time, the idea was ultimately dropped. The leak goes on to claim that GTA 6 has a release window for October 2023, though considering how many games have been delayed in the past year, the idea that Rockstar would aim for a release to such a degree of specificity seems unlikely.

This same large leak claimed that the map would be smaller but more densely populated than the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. It also claimed that the more outlandish aspects of GTA Online would be toned down for a more "grounded" feel. According to this leak the game would be set in Florida, which is backed up by the longstanding rumors that GTA 6 would be set, at least partially, in Vice City.

The leak also claimed that the game would be "very politically incorrect" which might explain the choice of time setting. Other "leaked" features included Cyberpunk 2077-style nudity, characters commenting on the player's clothes, and body modification like in San Andreas. The sheer amount of detail led some fans to support the credibility of these leaks, but also led others to claim that these GTA 6 leaks were almost certainly fake.

A New Trailer And Project Americas

Later in February, Rockstar posted a job listing which sparked rumors that a trailer for GTA 6 would be coming out shortly. Rockstar's career page put up a job listing for a "Cinematic Gameplay Capture Artist," which led many to hope GTA 6 would be announced with a gameplay trailer. This has yet to come true, though it just over one month later, and it is still very possible that a reveal trailer remains in development. The job listing may also have nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto 6, however.

Just a few days ago Tom Henderson returned to Twitter to suggest that 80 percent of the GTA 6 "Project Americas" leaks are fake. Project Americas is an older rumor that Grand Theft Auto 6 would take place in Vice City as well as some locations across South America. Henderson didn't reveal much more than that, however, and it remains unknown if his claim that GTA 6 will have a female protagonist is true or not. For now Grand Theft Auto fans find themselves in a position many are all too familiar with — waiting for Rockstar to make an official announcement.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be in development.
